When planned parenthood and Deenan admit that an abortion is killing a baby then their opinions would have merit. Pretending it is not a baby is what makes abortionists disgusting even for libertarians. Abortions are a honest response to an unwanted baby (pregnancy) only when the participants are fully informed and can honestly say to themselves that the baby must die or their lives will be harmed(inconvenienced??). Pretending its not a baby may make it easy to do the killing but it also makes what should be a heart wrenching difficult decision into little more than a bowel movement. and therefor removes the difficult decision and makes the abortion a form of birth control rather than the actual situation that it is. Bill Deenen is the last person to listen to regarding human population. He is a socialist/malthesion and has most his facts wrong! IF Bill OR the reader can read "the greatest resource" by Jules Simon and remain as ignorant and wrong on so many basic facts I would be amazed. When your would view is not based on facts that are real its hard to be correct..... I was born at the end of WW2, as a kid I remember my folks bemoaning the "population explosion". They were way ahead of their time, so bright unlike the Bushes of our modern era. Just about every problem we have on this poor planet is population related; too many people using too many resources (diapers, oil, metals, water, food-the list is endless and includes everything we use). I have long felt the religious nut heads are simply ignorant, blindly following the line of their leaders to procreate like mad; it's just a power trip to have more followers. Mormons, Catholics and many Muslims all seem to propagate like mad- without regard to the consequences to the planet. Poverty, greed and ignorance stimulate the drive to breed like there is no tomorrow. All our problems, all our issues, and many of our conflicts would be alleviated by a more sensible approach to this situation. And to the specific point the writer draws our attention to- I wonder how many people ever consider the blow to the lives of young people who have unwanted children-while they are still children! I feel it often results in a continual progression of unwed Moms having kids way too soon, choking off their opportunities before they have a time to be realized. It’s no wonder so many young men flee from the responsibility-they aren’t ready for that load so the young gals get stuck with it. Global climate change and shattered lives-all this due to misplaced religious fervor and crass political power. Damn shame. Thanks to the great spirit we have a more sensible President now.
