Absentee ballots expected to be counted by Friday

June 10, 2010

Tuesday’s election may be over, but there are still 18, 198 absentee ballots to be counted as of Wednesday afternoon. County officials hope to have all the votes tallied by Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, Santa Barbara County officials have yet to commit to their release of absentee ballots, leaving the Republican state Assembly race between Etta Waterfield and Katcho Achadjian up in the air.

Two other races could possibly be affected by Friday’s outcome. Joe Cortez is currently in second place in the county Sheriff’s race, putting him in the November runoff against Ian Parkinson. Jerry Lenthall is nearly 800 votes behind Cortez in third place.

In the District 4 county supervisor race, Jim Guthrie is behind Paul Teixeira by approximately 150 votes for a chance to advance into a runoff against Mike Zimmerman.

However, experts caution that a change in the election outcome is possible, though not likely.

Cindy how did PGE pull off opposing endorsements of prop 16 on the democratic mailer-One said vote yes-one said vote no? Who is behind that? Conspiracy or reality?

So Mr Hooly thinks its appropriate to slam smaller Police Departments as inferior. Only a jerk would think like that.

I know alot of cops from smaller departments who are as professional as any department in the State. Its all about your commitment to service Mr. Hooly.

Mr Hooley sounds a lot like Rob Bryn who is drawing an 80,000 dollar + benifits to be a PIO (Public Information Officer) for the Sheriff. While he is raking in these taxpayer dollars he is also heavily involved in Parkinsons campaign. Bryn also retired from SLOPD where he was Jim Gardiner’s PIO, having been brought in for that gravy job from his assignment as a code enforcement employee.

Say … wasnt Bryn once an Officer for Morro Bay PD. You gonna slam the good Morro Bays cops too Mr Hooly?

The PIO position at the Sheriffs Office is a joke and waste of taxpayer dollars. Why can’t the Sheriff himself provide public info to the public? If not the Sheriff, how about the UnderSheriff or his Commanders, or even the Watch Commanders?

If Joe Cortez is elected (and I pray he is for the welfare of our County), I hope he wacks this ridicoulous PIO position which will save taxpayer dollars right from the git go.

Dexter

I never mentioned anything regarding the caliber of the police officer’s in a small town. I was only commenting that a person who manages a small department would be way out of their league when it comes to managing a large department. Nothing personal about anyone except I don’t think they would be qualified for the job. The resume for Joe Cortez definetly shows that he is a small department guy and has done well there, that is the extent of his qualifications-SMALL.

I got my laugh for the day when I read the article in our local fish wrap (Tribune) regarding the experience that both Ian Parkinson and Joe Cortez have.

Joe Cortez ran a 23 man department in Pismo Beach and a 16 man department in Colorado. I hadn’t realized the extent of Cortez’s experience which is a real laugh in the real world of police work.

What is really disgusting is the pay that he received to run the Pismo Beach police department, and I’m sure he is now receiving one of those lucrative retirement packages. His subordinates included 2 highly paid commanders and I believe 5 Sgts,

Looks like great efficiency to me when you have 8 people managing and supervising the remaining 15 people. Do you think this qualifies hime to run the Sheriff’s Department?

So much for Joe saving us tax payers any money in the county.

The Pismo Beach web page tells the whole story.

And Parkinson runs maybe a 60 man department, oh that’s so much more experience. I just love how the Tribune avoids mentioning that and focuses on Parkinson running a bunch of security personnel

at the Mid State Fair once a year, where PR13 gang members beat up woman.

People are talking about how well Parkinson spent his campaign contributions. Here is where Parkinson spent 45K of his purse. It’s nothing to brag about. Try taking a real look at who Parkinson is. He has been accused of cheating before, lying about his credentials and rising through the ranks by having the bars lowered. Here is this sycophants latest attempt to cheat and lead the public to believe he is somebody that he isn’t. Talk about a hypocrite.

As of March 17, Public Policy Solutions and its CEO Cory Black have been paid $45,530 by the Parkinson campaign, according to campaign finance reports.

John Barta, webmaster for the DCC, told New Times the slate mailer is a “dirty trick” to mislead Democrats into believing Parkinson has been endorsed by the Democratic Party, as well as an attempt to “interfere with the makeup” of the Democratic Central Committee.
