San Luis chamber claims Romero will retire

June 16, 2010

Officials with the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce are reporting that Mayor Dave Romero has decided to retire from public life when his term expires at the end of the year. [E-Insider]

Romero, who has been on the city council in some capacity since 1994, had been toying with the idea of running again for council in November. The City Charter limits council members and mayors to 8 years in office, but has no provisions restricting sitting mayors who wish to run for council.

Romero, 81, served as the city’s director of public works for 36 years. He first moved to San Luis Obispo in 1958.

Meanwhile, current city councilman Andrew Carter is expected to seek re-election. Other possible candidates include Dan Carpenter, chair of the Cultural Heritage Commission and Andrea Miller, owner of Spike’s Pub and a former city planning commissioner.

yes please retire. The man has done enough. He has done enough damage to our town for a lifetime. I am sure the Copelands have provided for him and his children and his childrens children so its time. How can we miss him if he won’t go away. Its time to name a public restroom after him and then go on with the business of trying to recover from the years of decay and corruption.
