The study, “Lost Youth” is a county-by-county analysis of homicide victims ages 10 to 24.

San Luis Obispo County ranked 22nd out of 35 counties in youth murders.

The study shows that 84 percent of 2009 youth homicides in the United States involved firearms. Of the 803 youth homicide victims, 723 were male and 80 were female.

In 2009, blacks between the ages of 10 and 24 were murdered at a rate more than 14 times higher than white youth and young adults.

“While black youth comprise seven percent of California’s population between the ages of 10 and 24, they accounted for 30 percent of the homicide victims in the same age group,” the survey says.

Big Hispanic gang activity in Greenfield, King City, Salinas add to the killings.

And sadly but surely, that gang activity is moving south to San Miguel and Paso.

This isn’t news. I lived in Monterey Co. for 13 years, one in Salinas and the balance in the Hwy 68 corridor between Monterey & Salinas. I’d bet big money that 75% or more of these murders were taking place in Salinas and restricted to a couple of neighborhoods. East Salinas is every bit, if not more dangerous than East L.A. It has one of the highest murder rates in the U.S.

Bull.. there is no way that East Salinas is more dangerous than East L.A. Obviously you’ve never been to East Salinas..
