Nipomo woman died from hit and run accident

February 1, 2011

A body found earlier today on a roadway in Nipomo has been identified as Krista Janine Babbitt of Nipomo, who died because of a hit and run accident. [KCOY]

Babbitt, 55, was found in the middle of the roadway in the 700 block of Joshua Street shortly after 6 a.m. by Anthony May. May unsuccessfully attempted to avoid running over Babbitt.

He than called 911 and attempted to divert traffic, but several more vehicles ran over the body, KCOY said.

Investigators from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol are trying to find out why the woman’s body was in the road.

Years ago, my sister was ran over by a full sized truck; the driver had reversed over her, put the vehicle in drive, and drove over her again! He swears to this day he didn’t do it. How on earth do people run over a full sized, adult and NOT know it???? If I ran over something of size, I would certainly AT LEAST get out and see what I hit, dense fog or no…

My deepest sympathies for the family and loved ones who suffer this tragic loss. Blessings.

There has been a death. Sheriff Parkinson is the county coroner. It is his job to be there. Mr. Parkinson is very well respected by law enforcement agencies throughout the county, including the CHP. I trust that the CHP understands why the Sheriff- Coroner would be involved in the investigation of a suspicious death in this county.

Thank you for your response Ottathere, A few comments have been deleted, topic-derail

Maybe it’s because she was hit by a car ?

Why is Parkinson down there, the CHP is more than capable and they are the one’s in charge. I doubt they appreciate his opinion after he called them incompetent and testified that they didn’t know what they were doing in the case of his sister in laws family member.
