DEA licensing marijuana farms

May 29, 2011

Despite the federal government’s staunch opposition to medical marijuana, the Drug Enforcement Administration has licensed 55 pharmaceutical companies to grow cannabis for use in producing generic versions of the THC capsule Marinol, according to the East Bay Express.

Marinol was originally approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1985 as a treatment for the nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy. However, it was never that popular with cancer patients who said THC-only Marinol didn’t provide the same relief as smoking pot, which contains 66 different canabinoids.

But Marinol is about to get a big boost. Its patent has recently expired, and a review of clinical human trials show sixteen studies under way that, if successful, would broaden generic Marinol’s uses considerably beyond treating nausea in cancer patients, said the East Bay Express.

Proponents of medical cannabis question how the DEA can license big-pharmaceutical companies to cultivate pot while fighting against the sale of medical marijuana.

“They’ve got to realize, as a political issue, this is going to raise a red flag,” said Kris Hermes, spokesperson for medical marijuana lobby Americans for Safe Access, to the East Bay Express. “Here we have companies cultivating marijuana on a mass scale to produce generic Marinol. It’s going to force the government to answer more questions than it wants to.”

For people who may have missed the newtimes this week, they are doing their part where this topic is concerned. Don’t miss the following :

I sure hope the public is paying attention and the local jury has themselves a heyday righting this wrong. This is one time that I don’t care if my tax $$ have to pay for this “vigil anti” demonstration brought about by rogue LE and the NTF who serves the public – “not”. I’m just thankful that these brave citizens didn’t buckle under the pressure and opt for a plea deal. Let there be justice for all.

It should be noted that Amy Chastin who was the undercover MM buyer for the SLOPD/NTF and an Employee of Ian Parkinson was purchasing 1/8 oz of marijuana from these MM dispensaries at $35.

The DA after much wrangling thinks he can justify a trial on behalf of the rogue NTF by noting (according to AG guidelines, which by the way, according to the NTF that now seeks to quote those guise lines, that “don’t mean shit”!) that the providers were making money. I would like to know how they were profiting from the MM , because the IRS standard expense for business travel is .51 cents per mile. A simple map quest from the center of Paso (10th st) to SLO is 28.5 miles which is equal to a round trip legal IRS expense of $29.07! Then consider the growing expense and where is the profit?

I heard when Jayson

Dickel was on the stand, he stated that you get 1-2 lbs per plant indoors. That just shows how stupid their thinking really is as that amount is more like eight to tens times more than reality. They have no clue how much energy it takes to run 1000 watt lights, fans, etc. Let alone the start up costs of buying all the equipment. Let alone the costs of bonding your BOE account and paying your taxes. Let alone, the attorney costs to properly incorporate. Let alone the costs of driving to Oakland to join a collective and purchase clones. Let alone the costs of a computer and printer to keep accurate records. And then, you CAN BE compensated by the collective for your time. If there is any profit left over at the end of the year, it must be re-distributed to the members or you have to throw a good bbq or something for them to spend the profits for the benefit of its members. The larger dispensaries up north even purchase health insurance for its employees probably better than 80% of the private sector. That’s it and they refuse to get it so the big prison industrial complex keeps going. They want to protect their taxpayer leaching jobs. Good luck in civil court cowboys! And when some of you lose your qualified immunity, I hope you have good homeowner’s insurance. Dickel, is cooked. What a poor excuse for a law enforcement officer. I hope his family is proud of what he has got them into because this may affect them and the roof over their heads.;
