Atascadero appoints new police chief

October 17, 2011

Jerel Haley

The city of Atascadero announced the appointment of a new chief of police on Monday.

Jerel Haley, currently a lieutenant with the Santa Maria police department, is slated to start his new post in mid-November.

Former Atascadero Police Chief James Mulhall resigned suddenly in January and  Cmdr. Steve Gesell has been serving in the top cop position during the interim.

“Jerel is the right person to lead the police department at this time,” said Atascadero City Manager Wade McKinney. “Jerel is clearly a proven leader at the Santa Maria Police Department with an impeccable reputation.”

Why does it pay so much and what are the benefits? I guess the ultimate parasites (bureaucrats) jobs are the ones to get when the private sector is losing pay and benefits and are taxed to pay for them.

NOkidsNOworries!

“Jerel is the right person to lead the police department at this time”

Anyone else notice the language here? The “at this time” part sounds like code for “watch it, n00b!” – call me conspiratorial, but I would like to know what Wade meant by that. Will the Lieutenant NOT be the right person next week? Why?

“You’re first order of business: arrest Wade, Warren, the city council……………..”

Reference McKinney’s comment ……………“Jerel is clearly a proven leader at the Santa Maria Police Department with an impeccable reputation.”

It’s a shame our city can’t say that about you Wade.

Best of wishes Chief Haley. Hope you have done your homework and realize what you have stepped into.

“Hope you have done your homework and realize what you have stepped into.”

Pay LensCleaner no mind Jerel. If your as good as they say you are, you’ll have something on Wade in no time.
