Oceano board member resigns following DUI arrest

May 21, 2012

Oceano Community Services District Board Member Richard Searcy wrote a letter of resignation and plans to step down at Wednesday’s board meeting, sources said.

CHP officers arrested Searcy, 59, on Thursday for DUI after he swerved off U.S. Highway 101, over corrected, and rolled his Ford F-250 down the freeway. Officers closed the freeway’s northbound lanes for more than an hour following the accident.

Board members voted to appoint Searcy to the board in 2011 following the resignations of Jim Hill and Carol Henson. Searcy was first elected to the board in the early 1980s.  He then lost his seat in 2004 after a four-year term.

He’s doing the right thing to step down.

Better to exit in shame than forced out in disgrace.

Best wishes to him. Just because he got into a DUI accident doesn’t necessarily mean he is a bad man.

Thankfully, the only one hurt was himself in the crash. Now comes the mountain of woe that descends on someone when they have a DUI accident. He’ll be paying for it with his liberty and money, lots and lots of money, for the next 1-1/2 years of DUI classes, plus some jail time.

Getting into a wreck while drunk driving is supposed to be a felony. It will be interesting to see if the DA cuts him some slack because of his political associations.

In a perfect world, he would have the hammer dropped on him just as it would be on your average Joe Citizen. We’ll see how this one shakes out.

Yes we will see how it shakes out, like to shake some sense into you, I almost got killed by an innatentive speeding SOBER driver, no one should drive in the county after drinking, rember 0 tolerance, they should make him pay through his nose!

Richard Searcy did the correct biblical thing by exiting stage right! He must have went home and read the Judeo-Christian bible and came across the correct passages relative to his crime against our God in the decision making department relative to his job.

“And these also stagger from wine and reel from beer: Priests and

prophets stagger from beer and are befuddled with wine; they reel from

beer, they stagger when seeing visions, they stumble when rendering

decisions.” (Isaiah 5:7)

Let us hope that Mr. Searcy’s parents don’t read the bible in it’s entirety, therefore, following through with the following godly edict. Shhhhhhh……..

“They shall say to the elders, This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a DRUNKARD. Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid. (Deut; 21:20)

I agre, pasoparents.

He didn’t pull a Lisa Solomon, and push the CSD to buy him out to shut him up and make him go away.

Just a small correction, Mary. Actually he didn’t pull a “chitty.” After Chittygate, that’s the term we use around here. :)

So if you mess up & get caught, just come clean. Don’t pull a “chitty” and try to weasel your way out of the consequences. And when caught, don’t try to play the victim card, either…and say…file a bogus workers comp case.

Do as this DUI Oceano board member did…just leave. Friends don’t let friends pull a “chitty”!

I have zero sympathy for DUI drivers but at least he did the right thing by promptly resigning his post.
