Arroyo Grande police station bond fails

June 6, 2012

Arroyo Grande voters have again rejected a measure to fund the construction of a new police station.

Even though a majority of the voters – 61.2 percent – approved the measure, the $6.7 million bond measure needed two-thirds approval – 66.7 percent – to pass.

City officials say a new Police Station is needed to replace the existing station on Halcyon Road. The current station’s roof is leaking and is incapable of handling modern communication towers. In addition, officials contend it is to small with inadequate space for evidence storage and prisoner interrogations.

In 2010, Arroyo Grande voters rejected a similar measure to build a more expensive facility with 64.7 percent in favor of funding a news police station.

There not out giving tickets theres a girl for that not sure what there doing. I see them drinking coffe quit a bit. The cameras are there for one reason only to harass the bars in the village that dont fit in the cities village idea

Sometimes I think when there is an adequate LE volume in a town and the crime rate is low, I am hoping it is because they are doing good preventative work versus looking for / entrapping for petty violations as well as giving out frivolous (ticket quotas) citations to its citizens merely for job security / justification / revenue.

I don’t know but it does not appear to be anything like Maricopa PD, and apparently the “majority” of people in AG approves and supports their PD.

Regarding your phrase, “looking for / entrapping for petty violations as well as giving out frivolous (ticket quotas) citations to its citizens merely for job security / justification / revenue.”

I was thinking exactly the same thing when I saw this article.

Police departments generate an inordinately large source of revenue for all too many towns around this country, so large as to make them highly suspect.

As I always say, welcome to the police state. Only this time, the police state had to stay within its parameters, so that’s good news for once.

Ag has 25 street cops and 9 detectives and no crime.(proof is in stats google it) They could also down size staff to gain more room.Fact is police run this town and there probably going to build it without our permission anyhow just wait and see.

After installing the Village Big Brother spy-cams, there should be an accompanying lay-off of officers, no?

There has to be some payback for knowing that the spy-cams provide Caren Ray, AG’s newest perv-scandal-laden council member, with access to videos of everything we do in the Village.

Just another reason to avoid the Village, another reason to stop making purchases in the village, and another reason to vote no on any measures for funding new AGPD facilities.

Until we get rid of Mayor Ferraro, no new projects should be approved in AG. It is Ferraro’s failure at his job of “oversight” of the SSLOCSD Oceano wastewater treatment plant has led to the sucking up of $$$millions in capital reserves, the majority going to his Chief Crony, John wallace, and Wallace’s no-bid contracts to the Wallace Group.

I don’t think Ferraro and his perv councilshould be entrusted with funds for a drinking fountain…and being entrusted to with funds for a major new facility for the AGPD is completely out of the question.

Don’t forget about Wallace’s involvement with Grover. His puppet Nichols and the city manager are two more of Wallace’s boys who need to go NOW.

I agree but also add Steve Anniabli and Steve Adams to your list. No one should support any bond measure giving them control with money or a new building. The City of Arroyo Grande needs to clean house.

Well, that’s good news.

As I’ve said before, there is no question that the AGPD and its officers need, and deserve, a new, more spacious building. I certainly don’t mind funding my fair share as a taxpayer.

However, what I cannot support is the building project being developed, initiated, or anything else as long as Tony Ferraro is Mayor, and his city council toadies have been voted out of office, and more fiscally responsible (and less crony-serving) council members voted in.

If anyone has doubts s to my reasoning for getting rid of Ferraro and his toadies first, just look at how Ferraro has provided oversight to the SSLOCSD wastewater treatment plant.

Would you want to see Ferraro waste $$$millions in no-competitive-bidding sweet deals to John wallace and the Wallace Group, as well as other shocking conflicts of interest, for the new AGPD station?
