Salinas boy kills dog by hanging

October 29, 2012

A 12-year-old Salinas boy allegedly hung and killed his terrier-mix dog on Friday. [TheCalifornian]

Police said he told them he was angry at the 12-pound dog and wanted to see it die.

Shortly after 4 p.m., a 911 caller hung up before explaining the emergency, but not before a dispatcher heard the caller say “he is hurting the dog.”

When police arrived, the occupants of the apartment refused to allow them entry. Police obtained a pass-key, entered the apartment and found the dead dog hanging from its collar on the boy’s bedroom door handle.

Police booked the suspect into Monterey County Juvenile Hall for felony cruelty to an animal. Officers say he showed no remorse for his actions.

Of course this story is disturbing, and the young man has some issues.

However, I am getting quite tired of animals’ rights increasing more and more as our own rights decrease and dwindle. Yes this is sad. But it is a dog! I am far more concerned for the boy than I am the dog.

There is so much neglect and abuse happening to children all around us , and yet we are outraged beyond belief when something like this happens to an animal. I like dogs, and I think we should act responsibly within reason.
