Second-year biology major Brandon Huang stopped breathing around 11:56 p.m. Saturday outside Poly Canyon Village. University police performed CPR on Huang, 20, but they did not revive him. Doctors later pronounced Huang dead at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.

The cause of death remains under investigation, but police do not suspect foul play.

Cal Poly President Jeffrey Armstrong announced Huang’s death by email Sunday afternoon. Armstrong said Huang died while returning to his residence hall from off campus.

Vice president for student affairs Keith Humphrey said alcohol could possibly have been a factor, but he was not sure.

Huang’s Facebook profile showed that he was from Orinda, located in the East Bay Area.

I don’t, of course, know whether this lad was drinking or not but I do know that respiratory shut down is the result of heavy drinking

The hundreds of six-figure salaries at Poly far outweigh the significance of any individual life. Kristen Smart’s death challenged this paradigm, but failed in the end. This guy means nothing.

“This guy means nothing?” Perhaps not to you, but he had family, friends, fellow students he meant something dearly to. Though I do realize what you were trying to say in your post, I must point out that it was just plain insensitive and wrong.

Nobody’s happy in SLO unless they are drinking. Sounds simple minded but it is still true.

God Bless this young man and his family.

Found in his car which was full of poisonous gas? Is that what the Trib reported?

Article above is linked story from Trib. Above was what was mentioned in paper this morning. Nothing mentioned about anything else. Maybe there has been an update??

Don’t know why they have that on the Tribs site. It’s old news, March of last year. Different time, different student.

I hope it isn’t but I’m getting the feeling it’s another drinking death.
