Man killed in Morro Bay boating accident

June 24, 2013

morro bayOne man is dead and another injured after the boat they were fishing from overturned south of the jetty in Morro Bay.

Because of dense fog and low visibility, the friends drifted too close to shore and a wave capsized their boat. Neither of the men was wearing a life vest.

Suffering from minor injuries, one of the boaters made it to shore and called for help.

Rescuers found the second man floating in the water and performed CPR. He did not survive.

The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of his next of kin.

Guess I will start wearing a life vest. I use to be so big I couldn’t find one or it was too uncomfortable. Just lost 134 lbs so now everything I wear is comfortable. The good Lord gave me the strength to lose it. Now I am quite handsome. Just old. God Bless

I’m guessing the person that did not make it must have been injured from the capsizing boat? I mean, if they’re so close to shore it is unlikely the person drowned (at least consciously). Not sure a life vest would have made a difference, but really: wear the vest!

good comment. i use a WestMarine Coastal Automatic but there are those instances where you could inflate and be held under, but i’ll take that chance

I wear a WestMarine Coastal Automatic. Worth a try.
