A 21-year-old San Ardo man pled no contest last week to charges of carjacking a teen from a gas station in Paso Robles and later raping her.

Edson Salazar Tapia faces 25 years to life in prison for the crime.

At about 8:30 p.m. on June 21, Tapia and another man accosted the 19-year-old woman at a gas station on Niblick Road in Paso Robles. The men then coerced the woman to drive them to San Ardo.

After they arrived in San Ardo, the other man left the vehicle before Tapia raped the teen at gun point.

The victim was able to escape from the vehicle before Tapia fled in her car.

Tapia’s sentencing is set for Jan. 24 in San Luis Obispo County Superior Court.

Arizona desert for daws to peck at.
