fireA ventilation system fire prompted the evacuation of the San Luis Obispo Old Navy store Tuesday evening.

San Luis Obispo firefighters responded to the fire at Old Navy around 7:16 p.m. Tuesday and promptly extinguished the flames.

The fire occurred in a heating, ventilation and air condition (HVAC) system. The HVAC that caught fire served a bathroom in the rear of the store.

A large amount of smoke filled the retail area as a result of the fire. Sixteen firefighters used portable fans to pump smoke out of the building.

Less than $1,000 of damage occurred as a result of the fire. The firefighters spared the clothing from damage.

“The firefighters spared the clothing from damage.” Hah! That is, if you want your brand new clothes to smell like they’ve just been worn to a barbecue.
