California Highway Patrol officers arrested a 27-year-old Nipomo man for allegedly crashing into a bicyclist and then leaving the scene Friday morning.

Shortly after 10 a.m., witnesses said a white truck hit the bicyclist near the corner of Orchard Road and Grande Avenue in Nipomo. Emergency personnel transported the victim, who suffered major head injuries, to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.

At approximately 12:40 p.m., officers located the truck in Arroyo Grande where they arrested Everett Thomas for felony hit-and-run resulting in injury and for providing false information to an officer. He was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail with bail set at $50,000.

I know him, and his family (quite well, in fact). This will not sit well with them. In fact, I am going to see his mom today. Oh, Everette…

I hope the cyclist is doing well, I know Everette’s mom will be praying fervently for him/her, as well as her own son. As will I be.

“Hit and run” has become the norm after a serious accident.
