Man swept away by waves during Guadalupe baptism

March 31, 2014

wavesRescue teams are searching for a man who was swept out to sea by a wave during a baptism at a beach in Guadalupe on Sunday.

At about 10 a.m., Pastor Maurigro Cervantes said his cousin Benito Flores, 43, of Santa Maria was assisting him with the baptism of another adult cousin when a large wave swept the three men from their feet. Cervantes and the man being baptized made their way back to shore, but not Flores.

“A big wave came and took Benito, I tried to take him out, he was heavy and then another big wave came,” said Cervantes, pastor of the Santa Maria church Jesus Christ Light of the Sky, to KCOY.

The U.S. Coast Guard and a team from Santa Barbara County are searching for the victim in an area south of the Rancho Guadalupe Dunes Preserve in the direction he would have been taken by the strong ocean currents.

If being Baptized brings joy and contentment to one’s soul then it’s already done it’s job. Regardless of whomever it was that made the waves. I would however suggest the utilization of a swimming pool or a bath tub as opposed to a raging ocean surf.

Rambunctious,

There’re times when I can’t believe in what you say in your posts. This is one of those times, again. If you’re going to give credence to the alleged high-principled Christian vaudeville act of Baptism, then you demean it by stating that it can be done in a swimming pool full of chlorine!

Furthermore, if that wasn’t enough, then you state that it can be done in a scum covered bathtub which is equally demoralizing! What’s next, the toilet?

For you to be questioning the maker of the waves is sacrilege to your seemingly connection with baptism, since even the pseudo-christian realizes it was the Hebrew God of the bible. (John 1:3, Colossians 1:16)

Such insolence to the maker of the waves is sad to read.

I suggested the bathtub or pool…you infused the words chlorine filled and scum covered. If you’re going to put words in my mouth I will need to charge you a fee.

Yet another reason why I avoid Church religiously…

made-up god coitenly taketh away, eh?

Brother Ted, …Yes, this is a shame!

I don’t know …Do you suppose that because Mr. Flores was ‘heavy’ that he needed an extra rinse cycle ?

YIKES !

To all the negatory cyber snipers:

WHO made the oceans ? WHO makes the waves ?

I’m sorry, but Mr. Flores and his pastor cousin were tempting/defying the ONLY God of creation.

It’s sometimes sad, but TRUE faith demands ABSOLUTE compliance !

“Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani !”

Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani definitely does not fit here! A more spiritual person would think just the opposite, and there could be no cleaner rebirth into the Kingdom of Heaven.

To each their own, I suppose.

Many forsake what they claim to espouse.

A ‘more spiritual person’ might actually read the Bible, and realize that a true baptism though Christ would be by the Holy Ghost and fire ( Matthew 3-11,12 ) and NOT by water.

Poor Mr.Flores is but another victim of superficial faith in a tradition that no longer applies.

“WHO made the oceans ? WHO makes the waves ?”

Are ya gonna keep us in suspense?

SKPTYK,

Are you kidding us? The bible Hebrew God did!

“Through him ALL things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” (John 1:3)

“For in him ALL things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16)

You jokester, you!

“Do you suppose that because Mr. Flores was ‘heavy’ that he needed an extra rinse cycle ?”

NO. But you certainly owe his family and friends an apology for such a tasteless remark towards a man you didn’t even know.

Is your character so weak that you have to resort to wiping your nose on the memory of someone’s father, brother or husband…just for the sake of your underwhelming attempt at witticism?

Man-up Slowerfaster.

.

Oh for Christ’s sake, when is this pseudo-christian sitcom going to ever end?!! Another life lost for the sake of a primitive religious sacrament that was not needed in the first place for the remission of sins or salvation! When are the assumed Christians actually going to start reading their bibles instead of having it spoon-fed to them on Sunday mornings? Enough!

This is a terrible story where Benito Flores has seemingly lost his life for naught. This is because the ever so ignorant of scripture, Pastor Maurigro Cervantes, didn’t need to water baptize his cousin in the first place!

Our Jesus character died for ALL sins for ALL time! “For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit. ( 1 Peter 3:18)

“All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” (Acts 10:43)

The Christian Forgiveness Doctrine eliminates the vaudville act of Baptism! “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:10)

Pastor Maurigro Cervantes should be charged not only with stupidity and ignorance of scriptures, but also SECOND DEGREE MURDER! The least of which, he should be DEFROCKED, the fool that he is.

What will Christianity present us with the next time?

Just like the late Christopher Hitchens said: “Religion ruins everything.”

Of course you would NOT want to include such exchanges as John 3:1-21 where Jesus is talking to Nicademus, the key portion being John 3:5:

Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”

But you keep doing what you personally feel you must do to achieve your rewards among men…

r0y,

Shhhhhh! I told you before a million times, DO NOT SHOW THAT THE BIBLE CONTRADICTS ITSELF! You herald this notion of insidiously proving me wrong as if it was a banner of pride! But when you “think” you do, you blatantly show that the bible verses in question are contradicting!

Where there’re contradictions, there are falsehoods because both verses cannot be true at the same time, and where there’re falsehoods, there are lies! To therefore build a faith upon lies is irrational. Next time, remain silent to keep the faithful, faithful!

Thank you.
