Pismo Beach Commander Jake Miller will serve as the city’s next police chief, the city announced Tuesday.

Miller, a 20-year veteran of the Pismo Beach Police Department, will replace retiring chief Jeff Norton on August 1. City Manager Jim Lewis, who tabbed Miller for the job, said the city was fortunate to have a succession plan in place.

“Commander Miller is a leader and has a long history of exemplary performance with the city of Pismo Beach,” Lewis said. “He is the perfect pick for us.”

Over the last 20 years, Millers has risen through every rank in the department. He spent the past six years as commander, the second in command.

Miller said police chief is his dream position.

“I’m humbled by the amount of faith, support and confidence demonstrated by the city manager for choosing me to lead the Pismo Beach Police Department into the future,” Miller said. “Some will never fully know the depth of my appreciation.”

Good luck, Chief! May you represent the people of the City well.

Watch out for taking that State/Fed money… it’s only a baited hook.

Why’d they pick him? I’m sure there were deserving candidates in Rhode Island, or Florida or Tasmania they should have considered!
