Officials have identified the man killed in a motorcycle crash in Cayucos on Wednesday as Kenneth Kirtley, 63, of Los Osos.

Kirtley rear-ended a vehicle waiting to take a left turn near San Geronimo Road at about 11:50 a.m. California Highway Patrol officers said that neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to have played a role in the accident.

The two people in the car were on vacation from England. They were not injured in the collision.

In England cars drive on the left side of the road. It is possible that the car swerved to the left and stopped abruptly???

Motorcycles are extremely dangerous. Extreme caution should be used at all times. Some

people never learn.

So many drivers fail to use their turn signals. You have to let the driver behind and also oncoming traffic know your intentions in advance of your turn. Tourist sightseeing seem to forget that there are other people using the road besides them. My condolences to Mr. Kirtley’s family and friends.

Mr. Kirtley was driving northbound when the collision happened. Highway 1 is very straight in that area. I don’t know if there is a double yellow line next to the scenic lookout. The driver of the other car from England might have come to an abrupt halt or Mr. Kirtley was tailgating. It reminds us all of the danger of following too close. Practice defensive driving and leave plenty of room to stop.
