Man arrested for burning steer at Paso Robles High School
June 3, 2014
Seven months after someone doused a steer with lighter fluid and then set fire to it at the Paso Robles High School agriculture barn, police have made an arrest in the animal cruelty case.
On October 26, the owner of the steer found his burnt animal. The steer suffered significant burns but survived.
Paso Robles police investigated the incident for months, and on Friday, arrested 23-year-old Garrett Kaplan for animal cruelty.
Prior to the arrest, detectives interviewed several witnesses and collected evidence. Police forwarded their findings to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office, which filed a criminal complaint and issued a warrant for Kaplan’s arrest.
Police officers arrested Kaplan at around 7 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of Dorothy Street in Paso Robles. Officers then booked him in San Luis Obispo County Jail.
