Morro Bay police catch graffiti artists

Police building_tMorro Bay police arrested an 18-year-old and a juvenile accomplice Saturday for creating graffiti.

Around noon, witnesses reported a tagging that just took place in the 200 block of Atascadero Road. Police then located the two suspects with the help of witnesses state parks rangers.

Officers arrested 18-year-old Aaron Peters and his juvenile accomplice and charged them with vandalism.

Morro Bay police encourage residents to report graffiti to the department. It is possible the suspects in this case could have escaped if the public did not assist, a police department press release stated.

Please, they are vandals, not graffiti artists, taggers, etc. At least when someone steals something, it’s because they want it. Vandalism is just ruining something because you don’t want anyone else to have it. Should have stronger penalties.

Headline should read “citizens catch”, not the police. Police arrested them after citizens called and were assisted by park rangers. I can assure you, these boys that got caught tagging during the day are not the ones doing the majority of Graffiti that has been running rampant in the last year. According to a store owner that I know, who keeps getting tagged, these jerks are hitting the businesses during the early morning hours, usually between midnight and 5 am. Just how many people are walking around at this hour? It is very frustrating. I agree with achillesheal that calling them artists is off base. Most homeowners don’t get hit with graffiti. If you did, I’m sure you wouldn’t consider them artists either. I hope the citizens keep up the good work.

If you catch someone tagging make them lick it clean.

Have them work with the Sheriff’s Dept crew cleaning up the graffiti.

I love how these vandals are referred to as “artists”. In lieu of jail, let the property owner spray paint the artist from head to toe and have them wear it like a Scarlett letter. If they don’t want to be painted then the property owner should be able to paint their Honda Civics with his own art.
