Lompoc police found the woman in the backyard of a home in the 300 block of North Daisy Street, where she was suffering from gunshot wounds to her abdomen. At the time, she was still conscious, and she named Clay Murray, 64, as the man who shot her.

Murray was inside the home when police arrived, and he greeted the officers at the door.

Emergency responders transported the woman to Lompoc District Hospital. Doctors at the hospital did not succeed in saving her, and she died from injuries related to the wounds.

Police have not yet released the name of the victim.

Officers arrested Murray and charged him with murder. They booked him in Santa Barbara County Jail, where he remains in custody.

The investigation into the case is ongoing.

Horrible, tragic situation.

Fortunately they’ve likely gotten the killer and he will be convicted. A dying declaration is admissible evidence, among the other facts the police will gather.
