Suspect arrested for Pismo Beach rape

November 23, 2014

handcuffPolice arrested a man who is suspected of raping a woman on Thursday at The Tides Motel on Price Street in Pismo Beach on charges of rape by force, making terrorist threats and sodomy. [KSBY]

Though the victim did not know her attacker, she provided officers with a detailed description that led to his Saturday afternoon arrest at the Motel 6 on Calle Joaquin in San Luis Obispo. During a search of his room and car, officers found evidence linking Micheal Covert, 26, to the rape.

Officers arrested Covert and booked him into the San Luis Obispo County Jail with his bail set at $100,000.

Police are not releasing the name of the victim.

“If a man meets a virgin who is not betrothed, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are found, then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has violated her. He may not divorce her all his days.” (Deuteronomy 22: 28-29)

We must feel for this poor woman that was raped in this incident if she was a virgin, and if her rapist is a Christian, then he is to marry the woman he raped subsequent to him paying her father, or family, in todays value of 50 shekels, plus inflation, about $320.00.

Furthermore, the rapist cannot divorce this woman for as long as he lives. This is one of those hard parts in being a true Christian because our Hebrew God’s words run contrary to our thinking today at times, but who is anyone to trump God’s word?!

“EVERY word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.“ (Proverbs 30:5)

“And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by EVERY word of God.” (Luke 4:4 KJV)

Yes, Ted, this is “one of those hard parts in being a true Christian because our Hebrew God’s words run contrary to our thinking today at times…”. It is also one of those times where many people are asking: “Why I am blindly following a text that cosigns rape, puts a low dollar value on something that is priceless, and then-rather than punishing rape for the violent crime it is-then further punishes the woman by making her marry a rapist?”.

You are not allowed to do this however, Ted. You are not allowed to question anything in other than the bible. Other people are-but you are not. Yes, it is true that this was a violent act, and this woman may suffer trauma for years to come (and that her virginity has a shockingly low market value [but hey, it all comes down to money, right?])-but you are NOT ALLOWED TO QUESTION THE BIBLE. You are not allowed even a slight hint of a thought that says “you know, this doesn’t sound right here”. Let me repeat that: you are not allowed to question authority EVER. You are to blindly follow whatever is printed in this book and never question anything.

And that is what your life is. The constitution of the United States allows freedom of religion-but that does not apply to you, so suck it up. There are many other options other than Christianity that have a softer and more realistic approach to right and wrong-but you are not allowed to explore any of those-so stay on that short leash of yours, Ted.

Women should absolutely be forced to marry their rapist-and then have the value of that violent event reduced to a dollar figure-and then that money should be shoved in her parents face while they are reminded that they can rest assured he will take good care of their daughter (I mean, there is every indicator he did that right night, eh Ted?).

Or….could it be that human consciousness is evolving? That we are indeed seeing that violent crime against women is not acceptable-virgin or not. That we as a human race can rise above violence? Could it be that we are “seeing” that buying people off with currency is….just not right? That questioning our spiritual values and searching for what our inner selves feel is a good fit for us-is perfectly fine? That perhaps God (in concept) is such an amazing force of pure unconditional love that “hell” is not even a possibility?

My wish for you Ted is that you chew your leash in half and break free.

FYI Ted, this woman may consider being forced to marry her rapist a more heinous crime than the rape itself.

Is this what you would wish for your daughter?

I’d rather see him dead, period.

Who is any true Christian to question the Hebrew God’s word of the bible?

Besides, Jesus pronounces that the fate of His followers, the Hebrews, rests on their attitude toward, and the treatment of, God’s Mosaic Laws. “Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments (613 Mosaic Laws), and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:19).

Amen.

Good old Ted is just pulling everyone’s chain. Last name is Slanders….give me a break. He is just being his outrageous self to raise everyone’s blood pressure. Even the most fanatical evangelical christians (the christian equivalent to ISIS) would not promote the things Ted does. It is not funny of course but understandable. My only question is why do they allow inmates at ASH internet access?

Sam,

Your notion of evangelical christians that would not promote the things that I do, is a misnomer because I have nothing to do with it, the bible does! I just bring forth pertinent scripture relative to the story at hand. Get it? Sure you do.

Furthermore, if evangelical Christians don’t promote and follow the biblical doctrines that are shown by me and others, then they are directly going against God’s words which is blasphemy! Get it? Yeah you do.

The adage of “you can’t have your cake and eat it too” comes to mind.

“EVERY word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.“ (Proverbs 30:5)

Do people still read that rag?

This guy was in jail in the state of Washington. The Tribune lists him as a resident of Northern California. He is probably a transient, but apparently the Tribune cannot use the word transient. It would be more informative if the newspapers could just give facts instead of being politically correct all the time. What does the term resident of Northern California mean–that he lived in several places in Northern California as a transient?????

You’re so right Citizen.

Having grown up in SLO and remembering when the Trib was the Telegram Tribune and an actual nonpartisan news reporting paper, the only thing it’s good for in this day is either wrapping fish with or using it to wipe one’s arse.

I think it is the preferred TP for those who are transient.

It would be interesting to know what the circulation of the Trib was say 10 yrs ago and what it is now.

I hear less than 20% distribution in AG.

They’re going to have to figure something out soon…

perhaps reporting the news will help save them.
