Morro Bay police arrested a Los Osos man after he allegedly threw a sledgehammer through the police department door Thursday night.police door

Shortly before 8 p.m., Michael Andrew Parkerson, 27, allegedly walked up to the police department’s front door, threw the sledgehammer and then fled the scene. A police officer who witnessed the sledgehammer narrowly miss two Morro Bay residents pursued the suspect.

Following a short foot chase and a brief struggle, the officer arrested Parkerson. Both the suspect and the officer received minor skin abrasions during the scuffle.

Officers arrested Parkerson and booked him into the San Luis Obispo County Jail pending felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and willful cruelty to a child with possible injury and misdemeanor charges of battery on a peace officer and vandalism. Parkerson’s bail has been set at $100,000.

Seems like a pretty dumb way to get arrested, however if he called the MBPD for service dozens of times and they shined him on, left his family defenseless against a repeat assault, met with the top police brass, begged for service and still got zip for service, maybe he just couldn’t contain himself any more. There could be a back story somewhere. Should’ve sought out anger management instead of costing himself a record and lawyer fees.

I logged on here because there was an event outside my house last night in SLO that drew a major response team. I thought I heard firecrackers just before that (at least I hope that is what it was)….and it even merited a helicopter fly over. I came on this site to see what it was that came down, but I see nothing…


I am always slightly suspicious that some things in the happiest city don’t get reported. Particularly right at the start of tourist season and just prior to graduation parties (where parents might question the safety of the city).

Everything that happens in SLO draws a major response team. It honestly probably was just firecrackers, but that’s enough to get that overtime!

Thanks for that. I moved here from LA over ten years ago–but was very near the crash site in Cerritos in 1986 that destroyed 7 homes on the ground (the sirens went on for hours) and also lived near a huge gang boundary line where they fought over territory constantly. I remember holding our first son in my arms and watching some guy get shot in front of our house from upstairs. (We put the house on the market 2 days later). Just over-react to things….you are right…probably nothing!

That page is great! I found out it was only a car fire. Must have been something else popping (tires maybe) and not firecrackers.
