Suicidal driver plunges off cliff near Cayucos amid chase

May 28, 2015

CHP@A man ended a CHP chase Wednesday by plunging his car off a cliff near Cayucos, but he managed to survive with non life-threatening injuries. [Tribune]

The CHP is not yet identifying the man. Officers say he was suicidal, and he ordered them to shoot him before driving off the cliff.

Officer Frank Shultz said he attempted to pull over the man, who was driving erratically in silver Honda on Northbound Highway 1 around 9:45 a.m. The driver initially appeared to pull over to the right shoulder, but then jerked the vehicle westward, drove across the highway, through a wire fence and toward the bluff.

After the driver stopped the car near the cliff, Schultz and his partner approached with their tasers drawn. After asking the officers to shoot him, the man accelerated over an approximately 25-foot cliff.

The car flipped over and landed on its roof on top of rocks, Schultz said.

Emergency crews freed the driver within minutes. Responders then transported him to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.

The driver is in his 40s, and the car is registered in San Jose, according to the CHP. Investigators do not believe the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.

Ted…

Matthew 7:6

Romans 1:28

I’m glad that the man survived without critical injuries. I hope that he will receive the psychiatric treatment that he needs. It sounds like he is suffering from a very serious bout of depression. The good news is that there are a number of modern medicines that can be effective.

Hogwash, Ted.

“CHPs are a little better trained and do more to actually protect human life than the average cop”

This is because they don’t get bogged down by investigating child abuse, spousal abuse, child molestation, rape, kidnapping, arson, murder, fraud, theft, burglary, missing person cases, or elder abuse.

And thank God for that, otherwise they wouldn’t have time to write traffic tickets, investigate traffic accidents, arrest drunk drivers or sit on the side of the road with their lights on at highway construction zones while earning overtime.

The CHP pulls its share of boners, but as a state agency they can move their embarassing officers to the Mojave Desert and then pretend like nothing happened.

Oh thank heavens the car was stopped before officers threatened to taze the poor fella. KSBY left that part out and their report sounded as if the officers were going to taze him while in pursuit! Lol.

Sometimes Im a little too sarcastic. I cannot believe my comment got any thumbs up and your’s Mr Slanders got all thumbs down.

805code4,

My godly Christian posts, as within this story, always gets more thumbs down than up, because of the simple fact that the thumbs down are from non-believers and Atheists that can’t accept our bible truth.

The thumbs up crowd are from true Christians, because how can they vote otherwise if they read from the same bible that I do when I post specific passages? In other words, they can’t vote against their own God’s inspired word!

It comes with the territory of reading from a Bronze Age Book, and Jesus stated that there would be days like this; “”Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.” (Matthew 5:11)

Ted, your zipper’s down….

…or more accurately, you are like that person that might have been funny 10 minutes ago, but keeps repeating the same punchlines over and over – never noticing the uncomfortable cringes around you.

Dear Mr. Slanders,

I find it interesting and sad that you seem to spend so much time and effort in twisting the words of the Bible to promote your own agenda. (An agenda that is not clear to me.) Somewhere along the journey of your life you must have been terribly hurt by someone who used the Bible in their own twisted way to hurt you. I am so sorry for the wrongs that may have been done to you in the name of Christianity and the Bible. I hope that someday you will have peace in your heart and healing from your hurt.

Sorry dude. CHPs are a little better trained and actually do more to protect human life than the average cop. Try to get yourself lit up by a Sheriff instead and start screaming in Arabic or something.

The cops I knew in LA used to call the CHP “Triple-A with a badge”.

Because they were jealous.

“When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.” (Psalm 34: 17-20)

Under these unfortunate circumstances, we Christians can only hope that this person cried out to Jesus after his suicide attempt to help him through his current woes. If this person had no broken bones in his auto crash, then it has to be attributed to Jesus as the above passage confers, praise!

It must be conveyed to this person the following biblical axiom, even though it is self contradictory to a suicide attempt, in where Jesus will destroy the person that has committed suicide, but we true Christians are use to biblical incongruities.

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.” (1 Corinthians 3: 16-17)

By Christian doctrine, Jesus sacrificing himself on the cross for the forgiveness of all sins. That would include suicide.

Secondly, Jesus was a Jew. He was born a Jew, lived as a Jew, died and was laid to rest as a Jew. Jews don’t need to cry out to Jesus in order to reach heaven.

SLO_Johnny,

I am sorry, but the bible disagrees with your assessment of how you want it to be in the fact that in 1 Corinthians 3: 16-17 says our Hebrew God of the Christian faith will “destroy” the person that destroys themselves as in the suicide act.

I have to ask the obvious question, if you really believe that Jesus saves the suicide victim, then why aren’t you hastening your way to heaven by committing suicide yourself? Is there another comet on the horizon that could be used as a sign to perform this act?

About our Jesus, you forgot that he was also “King of the Jews,” (Matthew 27:37) therefore this is one of many reasons our Christian faith is ruled by a Jewish God, which is a sticking point to some Christians.

Furthermore, when was the last time you saw a devout Jew acknowledge Jesus as the Savior of Christians, and where He is the ONLY way to heaven? (John 14:6)

Sorry to tell you but hundreds of millions of Christians disagree with your biblical interpretation. Jesus would correct your arrogance and superior attitude. No man has complete knowledge of right and wrong. If Jesus can save a murderer than he can save the soul of a mentally ill person who commits suicide.
