San Luis Obispo County Sheriff deputies arrested a Cayucos man Wednesday who was speeding on Highway 41 in Creston with approximately 6.5 pounds of cocaine setting in plain view.

At about 6:30 p.m., a sheriff deputy stopped Alexander Allan Matarse, 31, of Cayucos, near the intersection of Highway 41 and Cripple Creek Road. The deputy approached the car and noticed a plastic bag filled with what appeared to be cocaine in the center console of the car.

Matarse admitted the substance in the bag was cocaine, according to a sheriff’s department press release.

Deputies arrested Matarese under charges transporting a controlled substance for sale and for possessing a controlled substance for sale and booked him into the San Luis Obispo County Jail. He has since been released on a technicality, according to a family member.
