Nipomo softball coach charged with rape

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff deputies arrested a Nipomo man Wednesday for allegedly sexually molesting a now 18-year-old girl for the past four years.

The alleged victim told law enforcement Tuesday Robert Bergner, 51, molested her since the time she was 12-years-old through May of this year. During the course of the investigation, detectives discovered Bergner was the coach this year of an under 12-year-old girl’s recreation league softball team in the South County

On Wednesday, detectives arrested Bergner on felony counts of sexual penetration of a minor under 14-years-old with a foreign object, continuous sexual abuse of a child, oral copulation with a person under 18-years-old and rape by force or fear. He was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail with his bail set at $1 million.

Good for this victim for coming forward and alerting authorities. No doubt he would have done the same to another young girl, she probably just saved others from the same fate.

I have said it before, but it bears another mention: pedophiles groom the community, the parents and the victim. It is not uncommon for pedophiles to be in a position of trust where they have access to their supply. Pedophiles, once they groom the community, frequently receive much praise, awards and recognition, for their duties. The way they groom children is by identifying which children psychologically would “not tell”. This one did. Good for her. Many do not-because the subtle threats insinuate the victims’ family or pets will be hurt. These guys are every bit as bad as sociopaths.
