CHP searching for driver who hit Arroyo Grande runner

The California Highway Patrol is searching for a hit-and-run suspect who caused an Arroyo Grande woman to be hospitalized with major injuries. The victim of the crash is a long-distance runner. [KCOY]

On Friday morning, Jana Hayashi, 22, was on a long-distance run near her rural Arroyo Grande home when a vehicle collided with her on El Campo Road near Par View Lane.

Emergency personnel transported Hayashi to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center where she remains in serious condition.

Arroyo Grande High School track coach Sean Ricketts said he believes Hayashi was training for marathons or even super marathons at the time of the accident. Ricketts, who coached Hayashi in high school, said she still holds a freshmen record for cross country runners at Arroyo Grande High.

The CHP is asking the public to help locate the driver. Investigators request that anyone with information about the case call the CHP at (805) 593-3300.

Tired of these hit and runs. Honestly, what kind of person are you to do that?

I certainly hope the CHP finds this criminal. Prayers for her recovery. As to the Hayashi family, I have the utmost respect for all of them. You are in my thoughts.

Most decent human beings would stop after hitting an animal.

To drive off after hitting a young woman???

In China, most people put the car in reverse and run over the person again to make sure they are dead! That way, they only have to pay for the funeral instead of a lifetime of medical care to compensate for the accident under Chinese law.

Is she by chance related to the Hayashi family that has the produce company? Either way my thoughts on prayers for a swift recovery. And most of all, that they can bring the criminal and coward who fled the scene to justice.
