A known sex offender is accused of having molested a 12-year-old girl in Nipomo in 2013. The suspect, a 45-year-old Madera man, has been in the San Luis Obispo County Jail since last week.

In March, SLO County detectives featured Mark Jeddel Cater in the Most Wanted Wednesday post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page. The sheriff’s office then received tips enabling detectives to locate and arrest Cater in Madera on March 28.

At the time, the sheriff’s office had been investigating Cater’s links to a child molestation case in Nipomo. Following Cater’s arrest and additional investigation, authorities added 10 charges of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14.

Cater also faces charges of violating probation and domestic violence. The domestic violence incident is unrelated to the molestation case, according to the sheriff’s office. Cater’s bail is currently set at $605,000.

Investigators are trying to determine if there are any other victims in the molestation case. Anyone who knows of a potential victim is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (805) 781-4500.

It would be helpful to know the context of how the molestation occurred (casual contact, neighbor contact, youth sports, school, etc.) so that additional victims might be identified. Just stating that it was in Nipomo sets EVERYONE with kids on edge.

Another rehabilitated pedophile that was allowed release so he could ruin more lives.

They are not rehabilitated. Nor are they punished. If jail was so bad why do so many people agree to risk going back?

Shorten all sentences to be served on a chain gang living in tents on bad food and water.

How does a known sex offender get access to a 12-year old girl?

Time to start tattooing the foreheads of these animals if we can’t/won’t/don’t keep them locked up and away from potential victims.

The same people committing the same crimes over and over.
