“The Art of the Book”

An exhibit of artists’ books will be on view at the City/County Library in San Luis Obispo during regular library hours from August 21 through September 21.  This show is an opportunity for book artists to display their original work employing a variety of techniques and media illustrating the many forms a book can embody.

This year’s coordinator is Melinda Forbes, and participating artists include Marylu Weaver Meagher, Lesa Smith, Beryl Reichenberg, Sally Joyce-Higgins , Julie Frankel, Rachael Winn Yon, Ann Gill Kellog, Meryl Perloff and Melinda Forbes.

“The book can become a visual work of art in addition to being a source of information, interest and pleasure,” said local artist Meryl Perloff. “The creative endeavors of book artists take many forms and give voice to the various ways we interpret information and communicate ideas.

The sensitive drawings and innovative page decorations that amplify the text of many books draw the

viewer in while asserting the creative ideas that push the envelope of the definition of the traditional book.”
