Meet the Doulas: BBRN September Monthly Event

We are blessed to have a wealth of doulas in our county! Come join us at EcoBambino to learn what a doula is, how a doula can support you and your birth partner, and meet many of the wonderful doulas that work in our area.

Doula is a greek word whose definition has come to mean a woman who helps other women. The word has further evolved to mean a woman experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the family before, during, and after childbirth.

Doul

a support enhances the wellbeing of mothers and babies, leads to fewer medical interventions in the process of labor and delivery, and ultimately saves money. (Studies have found that the presence of a doula reduces the overall cesarian rate by roughly 45%, the length of labor by 25%, oxytocin use by 50%, and the use of pain medication by 31%.)

Doula support compliments and strengthens a fathers (or other birth partners) role. A doula often can give suggestions and encourage the father to touch, talk, and to help in ways that feel truly comfortable to him and comforting to the mother.
