Cal Poly Bandfest: 'Year of the Dragon'
More than 275 students will perform at Cal Poly’s annual Bandfest at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in Harman Hall in the Performing Arts Center’s Christopher Cohan Center.
The show, titled “The Year of the Dragon,” will feature the Cal Poly Wind Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Pride of the Pacific Mustang Marching Band in an evening of bold and powerful works for the modern wind band and the traditional stadium marching band.
The performance celebrates the Chinese Year of the Dragon by featuring works inspired by the mystical, natural and supernatural aspects of human existence. The Wind Ensemble and Wind Orchestra will take the audience on a journey that explores both the seen and unseen universe.
The Mustang Band will present arrangements they will perform at this fall’s football games in Spanos Stadium.
The Wind Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble will bring the concert to a close with a performance of “Mars” from Gustav Holst’s masterpiece “The Planets.” The concert will also include performances of “Dusk” by Steven Bryant, “Night Journey” by Scott Watson, “Aerospace” by Maxime Aulio, and “The Year of the Dragon” by Philip Sparke.
Tickets to the concert are $12 and $14 for the public and $9 and $12 for senior citizens and students.
