Manchester Girl at Theatre D
From a British Model on a Tokyo Catwalk to a Fearless Woman.
“Manchester Girl” is Sue Turner-Cray’s one-woman show about “Sara”, her alter ego, who takes the audience with her on a dizzying odyssey through Tokyo’s highflying 1980s fashion world while exposing the seamier side of the sex and drug infested world of modeling. Facing deportation and an end to her “glamorous” lifestyle, Sara vows to stay a size two if it kills her. Sara’s desire to escape her English working class roots in drives her to seek fame and fortune in a foreign land and sends her on a journey of self-discovery, truth, and ultimately self-acceptance. Turner-Cray seamlessly weaves a multitude of characters into this Fringe First Winning gritty but uplifting story, of a northern girl taking a trip of a lifetime, while discovering and defining her true authenticity and surviving to tell the tale. Her story is as harrowing as it is hilarious and as it turns out, critically acclaimed.
