Morro Bay nurse killed in Kern County crash

A 63-year-old Morro Bay woman and longtime nurse at a local hospital was killed in a car crash near Bakersfield earlier this month. Deborah Doubledee had worked for 29 years as a nurse at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo. [KSBY]
On Aug. 15 on Highway 178 west of Kern Canyon Road, a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old Taft man crossed over a double yellow line and into the path of a car Doubledee was driving. The vehicle collided head-on, killing Doubledee and her two elderly passengers, Wofford Heights residents Bettie Louise Henry, 81, and Alan Hugh Henry, 86.
The couple whom Doubledee was driving was also killed in the crash. The driver who caused the collision reportedly suffered major injuries but survived. The crash remains under investigation.
Doubledee began work at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in June 1987. The hospital released a statement saying Doubledee’s death was a great loss.
“We are so thankful for Debbie’s commitment and service to Sierra Vista,” the statement said. “This is truly a great loss for our hospital, staff and patients. Debbie will be profoundly missed by everyone who was touched by her great care, mentorship, friendship and commitment to helping others.”
