2 people arrested for buying alcohol for minors

April 22, 2017

The San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s deputies arrested two people on Friday for agreeing to purchase alcohol for a minor during a local sting operation.

The minor, who was working undercover for the sheriff’s department, approached 46 people in Cayucos and Los Osos and asked them to purchase alcohol on their behalf. All declined except for Terry Webb, 62, of Templeton and Jaci Smith, 37, of Los Osos.

Both Smith and Webb were released on their signed promise to appear. They are both facing charges of furnishing alcohol to a minor, a misdemeanor.

Paragon, at first I was going to reply only to you, but changed my mind to make a general comment instead for a variety of reasons. Also, not sure you made this comment without thought just to solicit a response, so I’ll give you one in any case.

Adults furnishing alcohol to youths encourages to continue the practice and contributes to another one of the many problems our community suffers from related to alcohol. You know what I’m talking about. Young people simply do not have a grasp of social reality and the results of their actions stemming from drinking, such as real stupid unruly public behavior to include DUI.

Such stings are an integral part of policing that by extension puts establishments that sell alcohol to check for ID’s.

I would think local law enforcement does have other things to do such as investigating car burglaries that may likely stem from the influence of alcohol – go figure. Don’t get me wrong Paragon, I like my martini now and then, but selling to underage youth is simply unethical and a line adults should not violate.

However, on the up-side, your comment did reveal to me there is a possible problem of a “rash of car burglaries…” that I was not aware of. I care for this greater community and will therefore check out the stats at the local PD, and maybe help in some way with an extra set of eyes.

Is there really nothing better for local law enforcement to focus on? I’d rather they set up a sting to help put a dent in the rash of car burglaries recently.

Just wait, alcohol is not the only thing adults will be furnishing to children as soon as the pot business gets up going.

Perhaps the car burglars needed money to pay the bastards to buy them booze….think about it.

Stupid bastards….and so it goes.
