Al Gore movie at the Palm, a must see

The 2017 movie, “An Inconvenient Sequel,” at the Palm Theater, is a must see! It is a documentary, narrated by Al Gore, about global warming; its causes, effects and possible solutions.

Gore first asserts that warming is real and caused by human activity. He points out that about 98 percent of climate scientists supported this view.

Those few scientists who deny warming are most often financed by the fossil fuel industry.

The good news is that countries around the world are concerned and are turning to clean energy, solar or wind and the like, as soon as politically and economically possible.

Our president, on the other hand, calls the science a global warming a hoax. It is, of course, clear that he is a lackey of the oil industry.

Al Gore made it clear that continued warming would be disastrous for the planet.

In fact, its effects are all around us. We have more and more planetary droughts, an astonishing number of monster storms and hurricanes doing horrendous damage. As the Arctic melts, the seas rise and warm, threatening cities like Miami Beach and scores of others. As the seas and air continue to warm the tipping point into disaster nears.

On the good side, batteries and solar panels are getting cheaper and more efficient. By far the best news was the cover story of the recent issue of the Economist. That lead story predicted the demise of the internal combustion engine. In a decade or two most all cars will be essentially electric.

The fossil fuel industry is now threatened! If we have nothing but electric cars they are about out of business. As a result they are now, with the help of their friends in the government, doing all they can to block or slow the move to clean energy and electric cars.

So the road to clean power and electric cars will be bumpy but it will happen.

It must be tough for an executive in an oil company. These people know the science. They know their business causes warming and will hurt the planet. They will have grandchildren who will have to suffer through what they are causing for current profits. I wonder how they sleep at night.

There are things that we can do to help! If you can afford it, buy an electric car and put solar panels on your house. If you can’t afford that at least use a car as little as possible. Walk or ride a bike or take public transportation. Use as much clean electricity as you can.

Don’t despair, as there are better days ahead if we do our part. Keep the faith, pay attention, see the film and make a personal commitment to our planet. It’s the only one we have.

Climate change denial is an American conservative ideology. It is not based on science and ignores facts, like the fact that the earth is warming and the fact that greenhouse gases are collecting in our atmosphere. It is not about Al Gore.

Our great space agency NASA has a very excellent website on the facts of global warming and the cause of it. Have a look:

climate.nasa.gov

Mr. Duenow is convinced of global warming and denigrates those who disagree since ‘98%’ of scientists agree with him. Is it possible he and his prophets could be wrong?

At one time, everyone believed the earth was flat. Eratosthenes (c 276 to 195 BCE) was probably the first to accurately measure the size of the Earth and determine that the earth was a sphere.

History teaches that many unpopular beliefs in their time were proven to be true. I suggest he read about Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543) who went against popular belief that the earth was the center of the universe.

Then there was Galileo Galilei, who in 1633 was convicted of grave suspicion of heresy for “following the position of Copernicus, which is contrary to the true sense and authority of Holy Scripture”, and was placed under house arrest for the rest of his life.

I’m of the belief that people should be able to make up their own mind and not be demonized for their beliefs as Gore, Duenow and his crowd do. Their attitude reminds me of those who would deny first amendment rights of free speech on the grounds that ‘they know better’ and opposing views cannot be true and should therefore be silenced.

As a lawyer, Mr. Duenow should be a little more open minded.

Global warming has become a religion and al gore its prophet -profit rather.

No thanks.

I was at the Palm when the trailer came on; I could hear those of weaker mental capacity become agitated at the mere showing of a clip of Donald Trump… gasping as if they’ve seen the devil himself – and in their small world, perhaps they did? Still, I thought: this guy really knows his audience and will make even more money off of their fears that he helped create and perpetuate. Sad, but brilliant in a way.

I do feel bad for people that cannot handle any challenge to their thoughts (or at least the thoughts they’ve been conditioned to have). We are so susceptible to marketing, many cannot see it for what it is, and that is a tragedy.

I hope Gore makes more millions on the backs of his foolowers. (yes, I made that up).

77% percent rotten tomatoes and placed 15th on it’s opening weekend according to one link, apparently they aren’t buying what Al Gore is selling.

Do you have to wear foil hats to get in?

No, but you have to bring your own bags for popcorn.

Where do we get the energy to charge electric cars? From solar panels? LOL! Where do we get the energy to make solar panels?

Petroleum is evil, coal is evil, nuclear power is evil. Just how is this scheme going to work? Or….is it merely another means of taxation and control……

Gore is wrong.
