At the lowest level in five years, violent and property crime rates continue dropping in San Luis Obispo, according to the SLO Police Department’s annual report.

Key accomplishments include a 16% decrease in violent crimes such as forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault; and a 24% decrease in property crime such as burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Overall, part one crimes
decreased by 23% in 2025 compared to 2024.

Thee years ago, the department implemented a crime prevention five-year strategic plan. Since then, crime has decreased by 44%.

While most calls for service are down, reports of loud parties hosted primarily by Cal Poly students have increased. At 1,500 reports in 2025, issues with noisy parties are at the highest level in five years.

Newspeak: violence is whatever the Party says it is

You don’t suppose the lessening population of a particularly “alien” societal lifestyle, which has been indicated in most police actions for the last 40+ years, has anything to do with this?

100% correlation

The “crime rate” here in Arroyo Grande and Grover Beach should also be showing a down trend as well….the police do not actually TAKE reports, as in NO REPORT will be filed when you call in with a problem. They usually waste your time and move on- never doing anything at all. If you think you are “filing a police report” make sure that you get a number or you might not even really be getting this logged as a crime at all!

The reason for the decrease might be that the people who are not supposed to be here needed to behave and that firearm training has increased. Both are good and obviously have desired results.

Exactly right. Good behavior can delay or prevent your deportation. Thank you, President Trump; thank you, ICE.

Imagine the improvement if local law enforcement worked with the feds on immigration violation reporting upon arrest and at DUI checkpoints as well as reporting by social services, hospitals and employers.
