The Arroyo Grande City Council is scheduled to review the police department’s plan to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into daily operations at its meeting on Tuesday. Police departments throughout the world are using AI to review surveillance videos, organize evidence and even write reports.
The police department’s 2027 to 2029 strategic plan also includes improvements to personnel recruitment and retention processes. Supervisors will continue to develop the public safety cadet youth program while also working to expand specialty assignment opportunities.
In addition, the department wants to improve trust and transparency with the community. Plans include two town hall meetings and a national night out event each year.
Plans to improve infrastructure include renovating and expanding the evidence storage area, optimizing workspaces and developing battery storage and charging stations.
