Unit 2 reactor down at Diablo
February 3, 2014
An electrical disturbance shut down the Unit 2 reactor at Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant Sunday. [Tribune]
The disturbance occurred due to a flashover, or an improper arc between two pieces of electrical equipment. Preliminary investigations found that the disturbance occurred on the non-nuclear side of the plant.
The reactor shut down automatically following the malfunction. It will return to operation after PG&E completes equipment tests.
Unit 1 remains in operation.
