Arroyo Grande teacher accused of having sex with a student

Tara Stumph

An Arroyo Grande teacher was charged Tuesday with allegedly having sex with a student.

Prosecutors charged Tara Stumph, 36, with five offenses — intercourse with a minor, oral copulation of a minor and three counts of misdemeanor child molestation. The molestation allegedly occurred between Dec. 2014 and Dec. 2015, and the sexual acts took place in June 2015, according to the criminal complaint.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office filed the charges against Stumph more than eight months after law enforcement received a complaint about her alleged sexual relationship with a minor. [KSBY]

On Dec. 4, a school administrators informed the Arroyo Grande Police Department that they had received information that Stumph had engaged in sexual acts with an underage student.

Shortly after receiving the tip, school administrators placed Stumph on administrative leave. Lucia Mar officials recently said Stumph is no longer employed by the school district.

While at Arroyo Grande High School, Stumph taught culinary arts. In 2013, Stumph was named regional occupation program teacher of the year.

Stumph is married to a fireman and has multiple children.

This is serious. A friend of mine in high school had sex with his teacher and died. From too many high fives.

UncleCharlie,

How sad is that? Must have been a girly-boy nerdy high school. Well, at least he probably died with a smile upon his face.

Really, now. And here I was dumb enough to believe culinary arts was about cooking. Surprise! surprise!

culinary arts? what the hell? what happened to home ec and cooking class and Bamm! your done and back to math and science? culinary arts?…..give me a break. Teach them right teach them how to survive and prosper so they are not a drain on society and stop hiring children to teach our children. there I feel better…

The teacher was 36. Not exactly fresh out of college. But you are right, no one under 30 should be teaching high school students.

Teachers go through background checks, unless the District knew about the relationship and was negligent like Penn State and Joe Paterno, the School District did nothing wrong.

36 years on earth does not always constitute maturity. 36 year old body with an 18 year old brain. I like your suggestion about a 30 year old cut off though. I agree fully with that statement.

She needs to go to prison for molesting a child. She’s no different than Oscar.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

What’s cookin’, good looking?

Although the law is crystal clear about these types of encounters, I do have to agree that many of today’s teens have a much more advanced understanding of sexual matters than did previous generations.

Usually the judges do not treat a case involving a adult female/ underage male the same as they would a case involving a male adult/underage female, so I predict Tara Stumph get’s off with probation, or some other less severe sentence.

She should hire one of the Clinton’s attorneys.

Just saying,

Josey

Reject Caren Ray

If she were convicted and if she got away with probation (seriously – prison for an unforced relationship with what may be a willing 17 year old) – she will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life. THAT is a life sentence nowhere near commensurate with the offense. But THAT is the goal here. Because said registration does not impact California’s absurd jail / prison situation AND it provides a substantial gravy train for law enforcement and all other hangers on for decades to come. Completely without the risk inherent in ‘real’ criminals. The ones with guns who rob, murder and steal.

Make no mistake about it. That and “another child molesting predator off the street” for the DA. Who does not love a DA who is saving the childrenz?

65 Buick. I can sit here and recite for hours the people I know who are parents, that became parents at the age of 14, 15, and 16. Their spouse range anywhere in age from 4 to 7 years age difference. Some of them have been married for over 30 years, some less, but still mostly until their children were at least teens.

Do you want to tell me they were to young to consent to sexual relations?

I personally was in a relationship with a person 4 years older when I was 16, in a dedicated relationship at 18 with a 33 year old, my spouse was 14 and involved with a person several years older. Yes, I will agree teacher student relationships in high school are inappropriate, but it should be considered whether it is consensual.

I’m thinking I would much rather have children consent to sex than murder. When do they become victims? Because of our system and way of looking at things.

It used to be quite common place for teens to marry and have children. Now it’s all “molestation against a minor”?

Yes. Because as a society, we’ve agreed that age 18 is a bare minimum. Those well above that age, in this case too, fully understand what they are doing. The brain is developed.

You can’t tell me you didn’t make different decisions as a youngster. That’s what is going on here. While the teen may think that’s what they want, more than likely they would make a different decision if their mind is mature.

That’s what age 18 is all about, a bare minimum for understanding one’s actions and determining consequences. And even that, we now know, is far fetched when it comes to the development and maturation of brain.

Oh however quickly the poor 17 year old CHILD becomes an adult when they engage in conduct we frown upon. Or the 14 year old CHILD. When was the last time a judge said to a CHILD defendant in either juvenile or adult court “right homey, you could not have known that that was unacceptable. Your brain is not mature. Clearly you cannot understand the consequences of what you just did….”. Muah hah.

Come to think of it – just a few months ago the CA Supreme Court ruled that a 10 (ten!) year old had the mental capacity to waive his Miranda Rights when being question by law enforcement (without a parent or guardian present). 10.

But right you are – 18 is what it is all about in the State of California, at least for willing fornication. It should be noted that that goes for ANY person. One need not be a teacher. Not even an adult. It says ANY person. Meaning anyone who ever had a minor boy / girlfriend has committed the exact same crime as this teacher. That is what we have decided, as a society.

Of course, mother always said, it is not a crime unless you get caught…

Proof that males too can be victims of molestation. Disgusting.

Tara is quite a babe! With that being said, and being facetious, lets put this in perspective if the person in question was a male high school student, whereas, if he shared his experience with his male peers, he was probably held in high esteem and given “high fives!”

Now, if this was reversed where the teacher was male, and the student was female, then all hell breaks loose in that the female student was obviously used in unethical ways, even if she induced the encounter in the first place.

This type of instance will never leave the real world, but one can only make them despicable in the aftermath, and if religious, one thumps on their bibles on this topic as they remain hypocritical to those other parts of the scriptures.

This GREAT video comes to mind in this instance:

Ted, Ted, Ted, The LORD will afflict you with madness, blindness and confusion of mind.

(Deuteronomy 28:28)

Have you considered that the Lord may have already done so?

Hahahaha Ted just said “I would do her!” Way to go, Ted-o. Maybe there is hope for you yet!

Lucia Mar teacher of the year award in 2013…just quit giving out awards already.

It seems that teacher of the year status often goes with the molesters or others that have undersirable secret traits. They put on a big show for the parents and the administrators.
