Bruce Gibson supports special interests, ignores the needs of seniors

Many San Luis Obispo County residents are struggling to pay their bills amid our current financial crisis. Instead of fighting for those on fixed incomes, San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Bruce Gibson votes for special interests.

Gibson’ votes support consultants, nonprofit administrative staffers and his friends while others in our community suffer under the higher costs of food, gas and now trash rates.

With his close friend Paavo Ogren at the helm of the SLO County waste agency, the IWMA, Gibson fought to keep the overpriced agency going. He also fought against an audit of employees, which led to fraud charges.

In the end, several county areas were able to leave the IWMA and work directly under the county, a move Gibson voted against.

The IWMA charges more than double what the county charges. In Cambria and Cayucos, trash collection rates are going up between 40% and 60%.

Compare that to 3.5% to 22% increases in trash rates for those living in Creston and Santa Margarita, areas no longer working with the IWMA.

Gibson supports closing Diablo Canyon power plant, which would lead to higher electric bills. He also supports adding a fee to housing construction, to give to an influential nonprofit.

Please vote Bruce Gibson out of office, our community deserves better.

The Los Osos Valley road between San Luis Obispo and Los Osos is and has been in terrible condition to include the bike lane. If it had a “winery” on it it would have been 4 lanes and excellent condition a long time ago.

During Bruce Gibson’ 15-year rule, corruption and costs have also soared. The planning department is a mess, as is the clerk’s office now that his choice clerk is in charge.


He is rude and arrogant. It is time for a change.

Oust the man!


Unfortunately, his opponent may be no better. Dr. Jones has yet to publicly come out against the exorbitant raises that were recently handed out to the upper echelon of the SLO County bureaucracy (while the average clerk and assistant got a 2.5% increase). Rita whatever her name is, county attorney, got a 21.8% raise—FOR WHAT!


Yet Jones is mute on the subject. Amazing.

Sorry, but this is about Gibson’s failures, which are many. Mr. Jones isn’t responsible for the pay for any you refer to.

I agree with you about Rita Neal and other department heads. This is way too high in regard to increases for them. Gibson WILL BE defeated!

I prefer that Wade Horton and Rita Neal be fired regarding their collusion actions that they have used to help insulate their over compensated and under preformed positions I think Mr. Jones can help to facilitate this when he is voted in.

The only ones to be muted here, should be Gibson and his cabal of supporters. I look forward to their demise. That would be amazing news.

Don’t see anybody, cutting administrative, elected official, management County salaries and benefits. Time for an initative. Spending is out of control. We can rein it in locally.

I would say the majority of the county residents agree with your facts about Gibson. Without a doubt, one of the worst Supervisors in the history of this county.

In addition to your facts, he’s corrupted, arrogant, greedy, self-righteous, self-serving filled with anger and rage that comes out when he’s cornered. Kind of like when he went off and verbally attack a person in the crowd telling them to “shut up” several times during candidate’s forum in Atascadero this past summer.

He’s led by his greed for power and control through manipulation, intimidation and threats to many over the years especially those that challenge and call out his actions, words and failures.

He will be sent packing after the November 8th election. He’ll then known as Bruce “the corrupt lame duck” Gibson.

Yes Calif. it’s election time again so look and ask yourself are you better now that you pay the highest tax’s,gas,electricity,home/rent, get told what type of car and heating system you can have plus so many other things that they tell you to do. Oh and by the way don’t forget that great train to nowhere project they sold you on that now is costing 3 times it’s cost and only covers about 100 miles. They could of used all that slush fund money on our roads instead of you swallowing the lie that we need to raise our gas tax for the roads. It is really hard for me to believe the people running the government from the city to the state level keep getting voted in over and over. Would you keep hiring a person to work on your house or property if they kept doing a bad job at a high price. Vote them out !!!!

This article completely ignores the fact that Gibsons challenger is a complete train wreck, with some of the worst ideas I’ve ever heard of regarding how he would govern our community. He also has absolutely no relevant experience to do the job. if you would like your supervisor to be an extremist nincompoop who doesn’t know how to manage anything well , then vote against Gibson.

This article also totally ignores facts about the real cost of waste management in San Luis Obispo County. Plus he offers no facts whatsoever regarding his assertion that electricity will cost us more if we close Diablo Canyon.
