Settle settles the question: He’s not running

July 29, 2010

San Luis Obispo city councilman and Arroyo Grande resident Allen Settle has decided not to run for mayor in November. [E-Insider]

Settle, who has served on the council in some capacity for 30 years, instead announced his intention to endorse Jan Marx for the upcoming mayor’s race against Paul Brown.

Settle said he was afraid that running this time might split the vote with Marx, given their similar constituencies,  and allow Brown to win.

Meanwhile,  a grassroots campaign continues to try and convince former city councilwoman Kathy Springer Smith to run for mayor. Smith, who served on the council for four years back in the ’90s, recently announced her intention to seek a city council seat.

Sources tell CalCoastNews that pressure is being put on Smith to run for mayor instead.

It’s about time he stepped down. Or does he still have time left on his current term?

” … given their similar constituencies, … ” What? They both live in Arroyo Grande?
