CalCoastNews needs financial support

May 19, 2011

Whether it’s a developer misusing investor funds or sewage that is leaking into our waterways, CalCoastNews is watching out for you.

CalCoastNews has a diverse but irregular revenue stream which is a reflection of the current economy. Our revenue is dependent on advertisers and small contributions from committed supporters. We are grateful for the generous support from these individuals and businesses, however, at this time we are in need of additional funding.

CalCoastNews’ independent investigation team exposes injustice, waste, mismanagement, wrongdoing and corruption so that those responsible can be held to account and so the public can be armed with the information needed to debate solutions and spark change.

Currently, we have more than 20 ongoing investigations into issues such as medical providers who are making parents of children on Medical provide illegal side payments in order to get care for their children, public officials making backroom deals and officials at a non-profit siphoning off donations for their own use. After four years of investigative reporting, public trust has led to an increase in credible tips, requests for investigations and a need for additional funding.

By supporting our advertisers such as Karen Scott Audio, Pacific Energy, Café Roma, Dental Care for Life and RE/MAX agent Marcia Guthrie you are supporting investigative reporting on the Central Coast.

You can support CalCoastNews’ ability to investigate these issues by donating through PayPal or contact velie@calcoastnews.com or call (805) 234-1703. Donors names are kept confidential.

If we all could pledge $5 a month, it would add up quickly and not hurt anyone’s pocketbook. I urge you all to join me in a minimum monthly donation!

A number of comments have been deleted , questions and complaints, email please.

I am going thru all of my bills to see what I can do to reduce my monthly expenses, both at home and at work. In doing so, I commit to send CCN a generous portion of the savings I generate in my task to flip the bird at my high expenses. Everyone? I challenge you all to do the same….

CCN, thank you for being who you are and shedding the light of truth in all matters, even those you don’t strongly believe in. It is being the community sentinel that makes you great and we all appreciate it.

I just set up a Monthly donation via Paypal. Go to the bottom of the donation page to set it up.

Karen, I don’t always agree with your viewpoint but I really like the way you dig up the facts. Keep up the great work

DO Not feed the trolls, but rather feed the free press. I support you CCN and I will donate. In the mean time, God Help Us All, because nobody else will until we start voting smart and managing our own communities.

r0y, I don’t say much often but I readd evrything, you’re a breath of fresh air.

Could just set up a monthly subscription – you know, set PayPal to automatically give $5 or $10 a month. Not much, but it is for the service (who pays $60-$120/yr. for a subscription?). To me it’s worth it. Count me in.

One more thing Velie, Sometimes you make me laugh and sometimes you make me want to cry, I guess it all goes with the territory, huh? One thing you’ve never done is to lie.

OK Velie, you have my attention. When I consider that our own government has set us up to take down whistle blowers, I see you as our last line of defense. I already have identified an advertiser that I will support because they so happen to be offering a service that I can use and I’ll send you some money too . Keep up the good work CCN .

Just read Blackburn’s opinion piece, what a hoot , gotta love that guy. Like I said, I’m sending you some money, but it’s not much, if I had more, I’d give it to you, people need to help out here, now bring on those 20 stories that your dying to tell us about after you get enough help to garner the proof to CYA.

Gotta love this stuff, it’s for real.
