Capps Maldonado exchange slaps

June 21, 2012

Lois Capps

Central Coast Congresswoman Lois Capp tossed an election-cycle challenge to her Republican opponent Abel Maldonado to join her and post all his tax returns and worksheets for every year he has served in office on Monday.

“With the US Congress certain to consider many tax issues over the next two years, the Capps campaign believes that it’s important and fair for legislators and candidates to the House to disclose their own tax returns so the public can examine whether they meet their obligation to pay their taxes and whether they would benefit from their own tax proposal,” Capps campaign said in a press release.

Maldonado, who is currently embroiled in a legal battle with the IRS over more than $4 million in taxes the IRS says he and his family business owe partially because of allegedly claiming personal purchases as business expenses, plans to accept the challenge. His campaign has agreed to post his last return within a week.

Maldonado’s campaign fired back with a challenge of its own Wednesday regarding the botched Operation Fast and Furious that allowed guns into the hands of Mexico’s drug cartel. Hundreds of Mexican citizens and two U.S. Border Patrol agents were killed by weapons obtained through Fast and Furious. [Noozhawk]

Abel Maldonado

House congressional leaders announced Wednesday that Congress will consider a contempt resolution next week regarding Attorney General Eric Holder’s refusal to cooperate with a congressional subpoena for documents related to Operation Fast and Furious, Noozhawk said.

“I am hopeful that Congresswoman (Lois) Capps that we need answers, not cover-ups,” Maldonado said. “This is one of those votes and it doesn’t belong to the president or the attorney general or to any particular party; it belongs to the families of the victims who have been killed and the people she represents. This vote is about reflecting the interests of the people in our community who demand answers.

“Hopefully, Congresswoman Capps will vote in favor of the contempt resolution and publicly call on the president to instruct his Justice Department to fully cooperate with the congressional investigation into the botched operation that allowed guns to “walk” from the United States into Mexico and into the hands of drug cartels.”

So, “citizen” you basically agree with others that Lois Capps is one of the most honest representatives in Congress, so much so that reasonable people need not fear that she would purposely cheat the taxpayers. Correct?

And that would be in direct contrast to how you feel about Abel Maldonado. Correct?

Well, if so, I guess I finally have to agree with you.

That’s another thing I admire about Capps: her ability to appeal to voters on both ends of the political spectrum.

Lois Capps’ political career is remarkable in many ways and looks to be even more so as her power in Congress grows considerably after she, presumably, wins re-election in November. Who would have thunk?? It’s great to see that nice people who do the work they were elected to do can succeed, even thrive, in Congress. That’s a message that a lot of people need to hear.

You have to love the false equivalency in “they are BOTH equally bad.” and even the “exchange slaps”. One side is overwhelmingly in the wrong in most of these issues.

I’ll bet that no one asked Capps to provide her tax returns. No one cares. When you have a congress person that is just a democratic placeholder and has next to no accomplishments, I would expect her tax returns to be legitimate.

Here comes Karl! Et tu, “Citizen”? Is “Citizen” like those Bushisms such as “Clear Skies” and “Operation Iraqi Freedom”? Gun control, mentioned below, as the Timothy McVeigh encourager Michael Vanderbloegh envisioned it? http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/06/21/rachel-maddow-explains-what-the-hell-fast-and-furious-is-all-about/#.T-PJHG9M6WQ.facebook

You can believe Rachel Maddow’s bizarre explanation of Fast and Furious if you want, but this story has been reported in Mexico for over a year with comments from President Calderon and other Mexican officials. It is what it is, and can’t be denied as a ATF program gone wrong. It’s different from Bush’s program because the ATF in Fast and Furious made no attempt to track the guns and because it was kept secret from the Mexican government. In Bush’s program, agents followed the guns to intercept them before they crossed the border, but they lost tracking too often and cancelled the program as a failure. The Bush program was done with the full knowledge of the Mexican government.

Read what has been reported in the El Paso Times and other border newspapers on a continuing basis. Other stories about border activities have to do with ATF/FBI support of certain drug cartels in a effort to take down other drug cartels, and federal support of drug dealers or people caught bringing weapons across the border (both ways) because they are ATF informants. I have been following the border situation for a couple of years because I have relatives in a border town in Texas.

Was Fast and Furious a conspiracy to show that US guns were flooding Mexico so we need more gun control laws ? I don’t know. Ask Dianne Feinstein and her committee that is set up to introduce more gun control bills because there are “too many US guns showing up in Mexico”. The other explanation is that the ATF is the most bungling, stupid organization that ever existed, and somehow thought that recovering guns after they went into Mexico was okay, or that they had some covert operation to take down a drug cartel and supplied their rival with weapons.

If you think that Rachel Maddow’s crazy explanation is okay without doing the research on Fast and Furious, then I won’t be able to convince you of anything. By the way, I’ve never heard of Michael Vanderbloegh.

Pardon me, “citizen”, but I think you have gone off-topic, especially with such a long-winded rant that irrelevant to the article at hand. Try to be more thoughtful in the future. Thanks!

How about Michael Vanderboegh or however you spell it. I still recall McCarthy denying or not “recollecting” signing the Norquist tax pledge every time I asked him to admit it on the Congalton show. Three different occasions. https://www.facebook.com/notes/i-pledge-not-to-vote-for-any-politician-that-signs-a-pledge/complete-list-of-pledge-signers-norquist-style-its-a-very-long-list-/243517249006595

McCarthy is a sleazeball liar. He has to say he can’t ‘recollect” because he is THAT pathetically stupid.

I can’t wait until he’s caught in a cheap motel with a gaudy transvestite !

Get real, please, “citizen.”

Lois Capps is a political hero who has stood up against a slew of sleazy, selfish, corrupt opponents, many of them incredibly well-funded by special interests, and beaten their pants off in election after election. For that alone we can say she has helped preserve so much of what is good about the Central Coast. And for that she has become legendary in Congress, proving, time and again, that nice, honest politicians can succeed. Lois Capps is a humble, but amazing political role model.

But she has done SO much more than that, helping countless numbers of her constituents in a multitude of ways that truly matter, not needing the promise of making headlines in order to do the right thing for regular people. There are no representatives in Congress who are more hands-on and responsive to constituents as Lois Capps.

Lois Capps even takes care of constituent issues like problems with the VA, Medicare, Social Security; and other FEDERAL responsiblilities from people that are supposed to be represented by that slacker Know-nothing, do-nothing Kevin McCarthy. He just IGNORES his constituents , unless they are campaign donors.

He reminds me of Fredo; the idiot Corleone brother!

Maybe someone should take him fishing.

I have to agree that Kevin McCarthy is among the worse of the worst, being the exact kind of phony bought-and-paid-for politician puppet voters from all parties despise.

So, “citizen” you basically agree with others that Lois Capps is one of the most honest representatives in Congress, so much so that reasonable people need not fear that she would purposely cheat the taxpayers. Correct?

One cannot make up the, er…stuff that these lunatics come up with.

A six term incumbent a ‘placeholder’ ?

The last thing Moldy-nachos wants to discuss are tax returns.

So we’ll get to see ALL of Capp’s returns, but the Un-Able candidate will only provide his “last” return? And likely not even the AgroJal returns he massaged, which have the IRS-contested items. At least he’ll be saving paper.

I hope all of the Repubs who really want to see the last of this guy fill in the box next to Lois Capp’s name in November. That would send the message loud & clear.

Russ, I know that you realize that these current Republicans are not smart enough to do that .

What is left of the Republican party is a splinter group of like-minded MEAN, VICIOUS, SMALL-MINDED bigots and racists.

All it takes is but slight provocation, and the worst, most vile, contemptible, language of hate, prejudice, and utter filth emerges from their unrestrained mouths.

They will deny it at the same time saying moronic things like, ” I don’t hate all n*****s.”…Or they talk in dogwhistle, thinking that they are being ‘smart’ for phrasing their speech in coded racism.

Much more effective to suggest to them to send a message by voting a third party, or writing in a dead person, or being a ‘true’ individual by protesting and not voting at all.

Brought to the forum by one who refers to Abel Maldonado as “moldy nachos.”

I’m no big fan of Mr. Maldonado, either, but what I’ve just read is not only a double standard, it’s another (daily) new low.

Wonder when the Rove answering service will kick in? Go Lois!

.

“This is one of those votes and it doesn’t belong to the president or the attorney general or to any particular party; it belongs to the families of the victims who have been killed and the people she represents.”

Not to be a hypocrite, and within the same vein as his statement above, I am sure that Maldofunction is going to bring up a similar vote relating to George W. Bushes fraudulent war in Iraq and the killing of our brave soldiers, notwithstanding, the killing of innocent Iraq citizens? Yes?

Maldofunction doesn’t have the wherewithal, or to feel embarrassed about his ignorant and innocuous statement!

Who in the hell voted this guy into office?

“Who in the hell voted this guy into office?”

People dumber than he is.

Like most Republican politicians nowadays, Maldo-Not-so is a stupid person’s idea of what a smart person is.

.

Abel Maldonado’s ignorance has no bounds! Another day, another party line charade to attack the President and Lois Capps. Anything the GOP can come up with to avoid real work, as they mask their total incompetence at actual leadership. I’ve never seen a bigger crop of incompetent bull*hit artists in my life!

Abel, listen up! Holder is not releasing the documents in question because by law he cannot! Do your research, UNDERSTAND?! They involve sensitive national security information, not to mention material witnesses whose lives would be in danger. But then the GOP thinks nothing of “outing” special agents, do they?

When Bush and Company created “Wide Receiver” in 2006, and now it is called “Fast and Furious”, Bush refused to even appear before Congress much less answer questions or provide documents on this covert operation. No one ever held him in contempt of the same actions!

The GOP represents nothing but a partisan witch hunt on this Holder contempt charge, and they are insulting Holder and the president by letting the comical tea-baggers say there is a cover up from the White House, when in fact, Obama did what GWB did under “Wide-Receiver”.

Let’s bring GWB and his cohorts back for contempt as well and bring the same charges against this group of baffoons!

Hey Abe, tell John Boehmer to keep his promise back in 2010, which was to create jobs, remember? Sure you do. Do something that is actually constructive. WHERE ARE THE JOBS YOU PROMISED US IN THE 2010 ELECTION WHEN YOU TOOK OVER CONGRESS?! Your party has control in the House, and you have yet to bring forth one job bill! NONE!

Subjectively, just think of the intellect that voted Abe into office! How sad is that?

Abe, now get your @ss back to work on the real problems of this country, JOBS!!

You’re excused.

Wide Receiver was a different program (created under Bush). The US conferred with Mexico on the program. Guns were followed by agents and intercepted at the border, but too many were lost and the program was cancelled as a failure.

Fast and Furious (under Obama) was never negotiated with or known by the Mexican government. The guns were not followed at all, but allowed to walk across the border.

So why would the Obama administration want all these US guns to show up in Mexico. If this was a legitimate program to track guns to the drug cartels, then why didn’t the US inform the Mexican government.

IMO, the Obama administration wanted all these guns in Mexico so they could push gun control in the US.

Your ‘opinion is a steaming , stinking, sack of lies.

Republicans are domestic enemies and traitors that would do and say anything to prevent civilization…just as long as they get some power or money.

Absolutely the worst political party in America since the Civil War .

Slowerfaster.

Why don’t you do some research? Why don’t you present some facts on Fast and Furious?

Are you so ignorant of any information that you can only attack me as a “domestic enemy and traitor”. Aren’t you going to call me a racist, too? What in the world happened to you that you can’t carry on a decent discussion?

Your mouth is always open, but your mind is always closed.

Well, “citizen”, since you brought it up, in addition to branding you a liar, SHOULD he call you a “racist” also?

Where does Capps stand on this?

US: House committee votes to cite Attorney General Eric Holder for contempt of Congress because he failed to produce subpoenaed ‘Fast and Furious’ documents. Obama asserted executive privilege over the documents, which implies that the White House also was involved in the scandal. [This is merely the vote of a committee. It is a long road to obtain a similar vote from the whole Congress and, even then, there is no penalty except, in that event, a criminal case could be brought against Holder. We do not expect that to happen.] Boston Herald 2012 Jun 20

Not sure what Capps position is, though i’m not particularly concerned about that. There are more important issues relevant to the lives of the people in her district that she is busy with.

So much of what the conservative extremists rant about is merely distraction from the issues that are most important.

“more important issues”?

That’s a matter of PERSONAL opinion.

You have tunnel vision and you are in the grip of myths. I don’t care about your myths. There is nothing to debate with someone who only thinks in mythical terms.

So said by an individual that thinks “The Flintstones” is a documentary !

What “myth”?

Whoa, there Robespierre…. If you notice, it was your ‘opinion’ that I found to be a frothty regurgitattion direct from the right-wing’s usual propaganda merchants: Faux Noise, Limbaugh, et al.

The rest was a general observation of the decrepit and toxic status of a once pround political organization that is now nothing more than a criminal enterprise comprised of extortionists and assassins.

Here’s some ‘facts’ that your spin-meisters won’t present:

http://washingtonpost.com/opinions/eugene-robinson-stop-the-witch-hunt-for-eric-holder/2012/06/21/gJQAYqmgtV-story.html

in brief, the ‘gun-walking’ began in 2006, when George W. Bush was president and the Justic Department and ATF under HIS purview. It was a practice repeated the following year, and ONCE more in 2009 after President Obama took office.

When new Attorney General found out about this crazy and tragic progam, he put a stop to it…reprimanding and transfering the agents responsible.

If Darrel Issa, and the rest of the republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform committee wanted to get to the truth, they would have subpoenaed previous admistration officials for a full documentation and investigation, instead of manufacturing a cover-up conspiracy of narrow focus against AG Holder.

There! Did I use any ad hominem…against you individually…now or in the post you responded to ?

You can’t just call all of these programs gunwalking. Fast and Furious and Wide Receiver were different programs as I’ve tried to explain twice before. Your reference is an opinion piece and it has been moved or removed from your cite.

Two children of the same Devil.

One is a fine, honest, up-standing politician, the other is Abel Maldonado.

They are BOTH equally bad.

NOT! Get real, please!!!!!!

Ask Capps what she intends to do about this:

US: The Federal Reserve will extend ‘Operation Twist’ and will buy $267 billion in long-term Treasury bonds and sell its short-term notes. [The object is to pump freshly created money into the long-term bond market to lower long-term interest rates and stimulate borrowing which, supposedly, will help the economy. If that does not work, Bernanke is ready to implement ‘quantitative easing’. That means creating money out of nothing to purchase bank bonds and other private-sector securities, not government bonds. This pumps new money into those politically favored companies and passes the cost to taxpayers in the form of inflation. Bernanke says that there is little danger that it will cause inflation this time.] Australian 2012 Jun 21

To people that have the same or similar cynical view about practically everyone, i say that they have a choice.

DON’T VOTE. You will be doing everyone a favor , not the least of which, yourself.

That ole devil democracy is reviled by fascists everywhere.

Leave it to Maldonado to avoid the issue by throwing up some smoke and mirrors.

Hey Abel: Its not about an ill conceived investigation that was hatched under the Bush Administration. It’s about being a Tax Cheat !!!!

Moldonado is such a hypocrite.

Sorry for the typo I should have spelled it Maldonutjob

Don’t like either one, but don’t like name-calling …how does that advance your position?

Paso_Guy,

By stating the actual truth to the circumstances, that’s how!

What a phony strawman argument by this loser Maldo !

Capp’s challenge was direct, as it pertains to HER individual tax returns, and then versus Maldonado’s actions in the same regard. Does he know about his own taxes, or not?

To bring up this out-of-context WITCH HUNT; that Capp’s had nothing to do with, is the height of specious stupidity…and just a clumsy attempt to tar with a broad brush.

Typical of this loser to repeat the latest nuttiness from Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, and the rest of the Faux evil clown brigade.

What a coward.

Capps had nothing to do with Fast and Furious, to be sure, but she will be voting on Holder’s contempt charge.

If you think that Fast and Furious is no big deal, then you are grossly out of touch with all the problems along the Mexican border and in Mexico, including all the Mexican people that have been killed with the guns walked across the border and the two border patrol agents killed.

Oh, GIVE IT A BREAK !

You don’t give a DAMN about any ‘Mexicans’ on either side of the border, NOR for most of your fellow Americans.

Who DO you care about…other than yourself ?
