Pismo Beach police have identified a man who died Tuesday evening after driving off a cliff as 33-year-old Sean Ramirez of Los Osos.

Ramirez drove his white truck off a cliff just south of the Best Western Shelter Cove Hotel around 6 p.m. Tuesday. He was the only person in the vehicle.

Prior to driving off the cliff, Ramirez drove off the roadway several times while on Highway 101. He then exited the freeway at Price Street and continued north until reaching the cliff.

The truck fell approximately 200 feet from the road to a beach only accessible by water or by repelling.

CalFire and Pismo Beach police repelled down the cliff, extracted Ramirez from the vehicle and performed CPR. But, the responders could not revive him.

Ramirez’s death remains under investigation. The Pismo Beach Police Department is investigating the crash, as well as Ramirez’s driving prior to the crash. The San Luis Obispo County Coroner is conducting an autopsy, which will include a toxicology report.
