Morro Bay councilman says vehicle code not for locals

November 29, 2013

Morro Bay Councilman George Leage said last week that only non-locals are prohibited from parking in Morro Bay red zones, according to a video submitted by a resident.

Leage, who was standing outside his residence at his family’s sushi restaurant Off the Hook, moved his red SUV out of the red zone shortly after noting it was properly parked.

Nevertheless, California Vehicle Code along with a Morro Bay City ordinance forbids parking in a red zone.

“Red indicates no stopping, standing, or parking, whether the vehicle is attended or unattended. Except that a bus may stop in a red zone marked or sign posted as a bus loading zone,” according to the California Vehicle Code Section 21458.Screen Shot 2013-11-26 at 3.40.31 PM

I see a Pulitzer on the horizon!!

So this is how far we have stooped in this town? It was said that these actions by the city council are going to tear this town apart. I believe that this is an example of Pandora’s box being opened.

I have read CCN news for years thinking there was substance behind their stories. I do not see this as substance. George Leage is a man who speaks first and then thinks it out. This is as opposed to a politician who thinks it out, thinks it out, thinks it out, and then, THINKS IT OUT and does nothing of value.

George Leage is a sound byte waiting for a recorder. This is not news! Listen closely now and hear the loud squeak coming from the opening of Morro Bay Pandora’s box.

I believe it’s about people who think they don’t have to follow the rules everyone else does because they have connections.

Got news for you: that door was opened the day Bill Peirce & Co. started waving that recall petition around in the face of a mayor that the people of Morro Bay elected to represent them. Now we’re seeing what’s inside.

Please. The recall is a lawful activity and Bill has already provided more service to this community, in and out of office, than Curly, Moe and Shemp will if the serve the next 100 years.

looks to me like he’s gotten a lot more from this community than he’s given.

probiz…….well said!

Wow.

are you sure you should be going out in a boat tomorrow? You sound a little woozy.

The substance behind this story is the apparent continuous bad behavior of an elected city official. Behavior that we as voters should be aware of. Behavior that he, George Leage, should be aware of as being questionable at best and illegal at worst.

My Dad, a very smart man, once told me that if a man can’t be trusted to obey the “small” laws then he surely can’t be trusted with the “large” ones. Get what he was sayin’?

The first and primary duty of a free press is to keep politicians, government and big business honest, something that most of us have forgotten. Now we have partisan media giants, i.e. Fox News (NewsCorp), MSNBC (GE) that are nothing but message carriers, fan clubs, propagandists and owned by those they are suppose to keep in check. There are studies out there that show over 40% of all new legislation is born in corporate board rooms. Combine that with recent court decisions that have given corporations “personhood” and unlimited campaign contributions without regulation (at the Presidential and Congressional level), the importance of a free press is only obvious.

CCN is an important and integral part of the Central Coast; and, if for nothing more than showing George Leage as an arrogant dumb shit we shouldn’t re-elect, well, JOB WELL DONE CCN!

Just sayin’…

Yep to all that. If you look back at some of the older stories, when CCN first started covering the firings of the city attorney & city manager, there was a much different tone from the Pro-Recall group. They thought CCN was the bee’s knees – now not so much.

Well said, jrstone. We may not be able to clean up all government corruption, but we can do and we are doing it in Morro Bay. That would not be possible unless people had someplace to go to read the truth. That’s CCN.

By the way, CCN reporters work hard to bring us the truth, and donations help them do their work. It’s a difficult time of year to dig up extra money, but I urge those who enjoy reading CCN to donate whatever and whenever they can.

CCN! Your next question might be is this a case of Mr. Leage receiving quid pro quo from MBPD? Hmmm! Maybe “Off The Hook” is a little about bait, I mean sushi, and a little to do about “That’s on the house, officer!”

Just sayin’….

quid pro quo from MBPD?

George Leage is one of many in Morro Bay…

There was a neighbor of mine who was in HIGH standing and the Police Officers all knew him personally. He could drink himself into a stupor at the local downtown bars and drive himself home in his pickup unmolested by the M.B. POLICE because of who he was…imho…Once in his driveway he’d sleep it off in his truck for an hour or two. In actuality he’s start drinking the hard stuff after breakfast before heading to the bar /bars. He had a Police Scanner in his home and was up to date on the Police activities in M.B.

Like Leage he has a “PASS.”

My X neighbor is deceased now…so like Leage he HAD a “PASS.”

Except for the times he ended up in a ditch or crashed into a tree. Yeah, LOL – drunk driving is hilarious.

quid pro quo? or SQUID pro quo? Get it? cuz of seafood.

Sorry JR Stone….our cops don’t eat fish. They hang out at the organic garden out by the dog park in North Morro Bay.

Is that a dig at the cops, or is there another point I am missing?

How the hell does an honest QUESTION get dislikes? It’s a QUESTION.

Dumb comment by George, but, this is further evidence of the bias of this site and their being a tool of Irons’ group to coerce him not to run for reelection. Even if 1 of these 3 fails in their next campaign they are trying to insure that Leage will not run. That may be okay though as I think there are plenty of good folks chomping at the bit after a taste of the 3 Stooges. I certainly hope that reasonable people can now see this blog site for the bunch of partisan hacks that they truly are.

If you been a CCN reader for long, you know that CCN reporters specialize in reporting wrongdoing by government and by business – and that they are very good at it. If they found evidence that Irons thought he was too good to obey the law, and was violating it with the same arrogant attitude demonstrated in the video, you can bet that would get reported too.

Forgive me if I fail to accept your words as truthful.

How exactly did they (Irons’ group) go about doing this (turning CCN into its tool)? Can you walk us through the process? Did they learn it from Nixon?

wouldn’t it make more sense that people that work down there and park legally and live in legal residences got tired of seeing him parked illegally at his illegal residence and decided to do something about it?

Oh my god. I am so TICKED OFF right now I could drive my Subaru wagon (that I LIVE IN) into a wall. What if there was a fire at Sun N Buns and they had to go find Gorgie Boy first before putting the fire out? Or does he own the fires that break out down there too?

Five stars! Two thumbs up! For “Small Town Arrogance” – the gripping tale of a waterfront restauranteur trying to have a morning cup of coffee in peace. Starring George Leage (as himself), “Small Town Arrogance” shows us all what rules really mean, who they’re really meant for, and that what looks like red paint is not always red paint.

You mean Gotham City?

On the video, Leage said, “Everybody parks there”. Don’t the police ever patrol that area?

What did Leage mean when he said that curb was not legally painted red? Did someone sneak out there in the middle of the night and put red paint on it?

What frequently happens is a business owner (or other party of interest) paints a curb to suit their needs (often green) without any official approval. I suspect that is what Leage is referring to.

The legitimate question is whether that red curb was authorized, painted, and maintained by the City, or whether it was a private job for someone’s ulterior motives.

No, the legitimate question (answered by the photo and the video) is, was the curb red? If you think a red curb should not be painted red, you contact the police or Public Services and state your concerns. You could even contact a City Council member and note those concerns. The Council would then ask the City staff to look into the matter. All this would have been pretty easy for Leage, since he IS a Council member.

If the curb is, indeed, incorrectly marked, the City will handle the problem. You do not decide for yourself that a curb should not be red and therefore it is OK to park there.

Beyond that, if Leage really thought that curb was not supposed to be red, why did he move the car?

Don’t be a twit.

Your guy fired a loyal city attorney and cost us $200K. Your guy harpooned a sewer project and trebled the price. Your guy has called for 25+ special sessions and closed sessions in less than one year.

My guy parked in front of red curb.

Our guy gets around primarily on a bicycle. So does our other guy. Your guy takes up (illegal) space on our Embarcadero, resides there illegally, and sullies up our pristine air with his gas-guzzling SUV.

That’s a pretty funny visual, mbactivist1. Must have been a frame-job by Mayor Irons. He sneaked down there dressed in black with a can of red spray paint, then sanded it to make it look like it had been there a long time.

mbactivist…………The Embarcadero has always been a high crime area. Lets hire more police to patrol parking spaces. You must be kidding me!!!!

Interesting video, but does anyone else have a problem with the CCN cameraman riding a horse on the sidewalks of Morro Bay in order to film this?

You caught that too? I wasn’t sure if they were on a horse or it was the finger-snapping intro of a West Side Story number about to break out: “Once your’e a Jet, you’re always a Jet …”

I’m not sure it was a CCN cameraman riding the horse or snapping her fingers. The story says, “…according to a video submitted by a resident..”

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WiserGuy………..talk about animal abuse!

You had to go and ruin it.

you forgot one thing, Geraldo – that is Gorge League’s street and that red & green paint is HIS – he built that street. if ure going to be invegstivative journalist, do your homwork.

Pardon me, if Mr. Leage owns that street does he maintain the street? Does the City Police enforce violations on that private street? Could you please tell me where I find the “PRIVATE” sign for the street?

This is without doubt one sleezie and ignorant politician. Who made this bastard King of the serfs. I will never go into American Fish Company or Off the Nook again. Shame on him!

you got no respect for your leaders. if Betty Winholtzer parked in a handicap spot would you want her to be filmed and hrassed by Anderson coopers?

and givemeabreak2…….perhaps you might want to learn how to spell Georges name.

How about you add George to the recall and call it even.
