Hopefully the injured party will recover. I saw the bike in the street as the cops were doing their post accident investigation. It was in pieces.

A deceased 86 year old retired man I knew who lived in Atascadero, when he was approx. 80 years old had surgeries on both his eyes. He was pretty much blind in one eye and the other eye wasn’t much better and somehow he manipulated his local physician so he could continue driving. Also, the Peripheral Vision was pretty much gone in both eyes. It was a big JOKE by him on the doctor…He could manipulate most anyone.

That being said, doctor’s really don’t want to cause old people to stop being self-reliant, even though he had a son who lived next door, and a wife who could drive at that time. In office tests are made to be arbitrary…so that doctors can’t be held liable for accidents an older person causes while driving.

Maybe people over 70 or those persons who have eye vision problems should be mandated to see an ophthalmologist yearly and be certified by him / her to drive and the results be sent to DMV.

Never happen

Boxer, Feinstein, and Capps are so vocal about needing gun control but quiet as a mouse when another elderly drivers kills someone, When are the “Demo 3” going to sponsor legislation to have older drivers tested regularly and take away their drivers licenses when necessary.

The question arises, “should a 90 yr old be driving?”

good question , soon we will have cars that take care of everything for us including the driving.

I WONDER IF THIS CYCLIST WAS WEARING BRIGHT COLORS (LIME GREEN!) , IF THE WOMAN ‘DIDN’T SEE HIM’, THAT IS A PROBLEM!! I WISH HIM A SPEEDY RECOVERY.

Are you suggesting that the motorcyclist should be wearing lime green in order to be safe? Really? It’s not enough that we have to have our headlight on, our taillight on, our reflectors in place, and it’s not enough that this was on a straight road in broad daylight….somehow it’s the fault of the motorcyclist because he wasn’t wearing a fancy outfit.

She was taking a left. She was looking right at his headlight. If it’s been close, he would have hit the rear of her car. The impact point and trajectory of his body into the windshield suggest that she turned just as he was approaching…giving him no option but to suffer.

People, please take time to think about what you are doing and drive carefully.

Thanks.

“People, please take time to think about what you are doing and drive carefully”.

Agreed… and motorcyclists, stop lane cutting it is dangerous and stupid.

“Lane Splitting” as the California DMV code calls it, is LEGAL. It’s legal for a series of very good reasons.

See http://lanesplittingislegal.com/ and http://www.chp.ca.gov/programs/lanesplitting.html

kayaknut, perhaps it’s time to get caught up with changes in the laws.

I have read it…. Traffic flow – Travel at a speed that is no more than 10 mph faster than other traffic; danger increases at higher speed differentials. Lane splitting is not advised when traffic flow is at 30 mph or faster; danger increases as overall speed increases…….

I often see lane splitting at highway speeds……. dangerous and stupid….

Traffic lanes – Lane splitting is encouraged to be done between the #1 and #2 lanes; typically, it is safer to lane split in these lanes than between other lanes.

I often have seen it done on the shoulder…. again dangerous and stupid… and illegal. I also have seen it done over a double yellow… again illegal.
