Driver slams into Oceano power pole, spurs outage
November 7, 2014
More than 6,500 customers lost power Thursday after a woman crashed her vehicle into a power pole in Oceano. [Tribune]
Shortly before 2 p.m., the woman lost control of her vehicle while driving on Halcyon Road. The vehicle then collided with power pole causing both the impacted pole and an adjacent pole to snap and sending power lines to the ground.
The driver suffered minor injuries, but she was trapped insider her car as workers moved the lines and tested the vehicle for electrical hazard. Once the workers completed the test, the woman was able to exit the passenger side of her vehicle.
The power outage affected customers in Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach, Oceano, Pismo Beach and surrounding areas in the Five Cities. Utility workers did not restore power entirely until 5:20 p.m.
A smaller outage also occurred in San Luis Obispo Thursday afternoon when a trench digger hit a power line. The outage only affected 18 customers including the Tribune building.
