California panel calls for billions in reparations for black residents

A California panel on Saturday approved recommendations for reparations to black residents for decades of discrimination and repression.

The nine-member committee will provide their proposed recommendations to the state legislature for review. Proposed reparations could run up to $1.2 million per person, which would amount to hundreds of billions of dollars.

Earlier this year, Gov. Gavin Newsom reported the state had a $22.5 billion deficit. This comes at a time state tax revenues fall short of expectations.

Because of current financial shortfalls, the committee’s proposals are likely to face some scrutiny in the legislature.

In addition to proposing restitution, the task force recommends a public apology for past racists actions and a promise not to repeat those acts in the future.

Two things I find offensive with this subject, violating the 1st amendment to disregard with ones rational.

This sounds racist. Taxes from all other races have to pay only one other race. Where’s MLK when you need him.

“Judge a person by the content of their character, not the color of their skin.” Duh!

The reparations argument: “The state supreme court enforced the federal Fugitive Slave Act, which allowed for the capture and return of runaway enslaved people, for over a decade until emancipation. (Key words FEDERAL ACT)

Experts testified to the commission about the years of discrimination that followed after slavery was abolished, from environmental racism (meaningless term) to the state’s history of redlining, (Redlining is a banking practice) discriminatory housing practices (private act not State of California unless CalVet loan program involved) and segregation in schools (local act not State of California)

In June 2022, the commission released a 500-page report that detailed 170 years of state-sanctioned discrimination through housing policies, political disenfranchisement and environmental injustice. The report extensively described “segregation, racial terror, harmful racist neglect” inflicted on Black people across the US and in California.

The report concluded that “atrocities in nearly every sector of civil society have inflicted harms, which cascade over a lifetime and compound over generations, resulting in the current wealth gap between Black and white Americans”. (Hmmm is wealth gap the issue?)

This has to be the most insane thing I have ever heard.

About time.

If this passes I will never pay another dime in income tax to this state….

We have atrocities taking place right now. Small unacompanied children crossing our borders working in slaughter houses. Children being sold as sex slaves. Our people dying from drug overdoses. This is happening now not hundreds of years ago. Why isn’t our Government doing something about what is happening today. The thought of any kind of slavery is disgusting. The African AMERICAN people who think reparation is justice need to seek out the ancestors of the African people who imprisoned them in Africa, and sold them originally into slavery. To blame todays American people for something they had no part in is ridiculous. What we should do is pay for any African AMERICAN who has traced their roots, and would like to go back to Africa to visit their ancestral homeland.I have been to Africa, and I think on their return to America they would be kissing the ground, and thanking their ancestors for the opportunities that todays America has given them. It won’t be just white peoples money paying this reparation. All Americans will be responsible.

Hey wasn’t it California gold that funded the Union’s war effort? So everybody owes US!

Will reparations come to Pueblans and Native American Indians for the savagery and enslavement perpetrated in California by whites. Lets not forget what Serranus Hastings perpetrated in the Horrific Sand Creek Massacre, then breach of contracts involving our government’s contracts for Pueblan and Indian Land Rights, which includes water rights. This amounts to trillions of dollars of stolen assets and then throw on top of it discrimination. Oh that is right Newsom’s family profited and continues to profit from these crimes against humanity…
