A Grover Beach man was killed in a five-vehicle crash allegedly caused by a wrong-way driver on the Cuesta Grade on Wednesday night.

A caller reported the crash shortly after 11 p.m. on southbound Highway 101 by Hawk Hill. David Worthington Ross was driving a white GMC Canyon truck the wrong way, heading southbound on northbound Highway 101 when he crashed head-on into a black Dodge Charger, according to the CHP.

Simultaneously, three other vehicles also crashed into both the GMC truck and the Dodge Charger.

Fire personnel pronounced the right front passenger of the Dodge, a 55-year-old Grover Beach man, deceased at the scene. Responders transported Ross and the driver of the Dodge Charger to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

Ross is suspected of having being under the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs. Officers arrested him.
