Truck crashes into tree off Highway 41, driver killed

A driver died Wednesday morning after their pickup truck went off Highway 41 between Morro Bay and Atascadero and crashed into a tree.
The gray pickup truck veered off Highway 41 by Toro Creek Road at about 7 a.m. The vehicle crashed into a tree, then went about 20 feet down an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and extricated the victim who was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased’s name is not being disclosed pending notification of their next of kin.
Traffic backed up in the area, and the CHP closed Highway 41 between Morro Bay and Atascadero. The CHP has been advising drivers to use highways 46 or 101 instead of Highway 41.
